The prettiest hotel ever! The bedrooms are so incredible, you can really feel like Japan in the 1900s, super traditional. The staff are really friendly, they speak English. The breakfast is amazing, but if you’re looking for a toast or something more ocidental, I wouldn’t recommend it. Otherwise, go for it! So worth it.
Located right in front of the shore, guests at Ibusuki Phenix Hotel can enjoy "Sunamushi" sand hot-spring baths and request for relaxing massages.

Fantastic retro style hotel. Lovely staff, great rooms, delicious breakfast buffet. We did the supplemental sand baths which I'd highly recommend to anyone. Gorgeous views and great price. Would 100% come back and stay again.

Very helpful staff, beautiful property with gorgeous rooms overlooking the ocean. Large balcony, comfortable bedding, luxury bathroom. There is a onsen on the top floor and an onsen in the back courtyard that is open air. It is possible to privately reserve the open air onsen hourly from 3 to 5 PM. The dinner was amazing and the breakfast was so fancy. Dining room host described each dish and was right there to meet all of your needs. They also had a one hour all you can drink shochu tasting with local whiskey and plum wine that came with an appetizer, and it was fun to try the local beverages.

We stayed here mid-May 2024. Our hostess is awesome! Very friendly, she came over just after we checked in to make sure all was ok. It was just like the photos. The place is set up with two “apartments”, each lockable. We had the ground floor one and another person (we did not meet) had the top floor. Each area has their own toilet and washroom. There is a shared kitchen. Our apartment had a bedroom area and a sitting room. The space was larger than I expected, so bonus. It is on a quiet street so no need for my often-used ear plugs! It is about a 10 min walk from the station and 15 min walk to the Sand Onsen. They do offer free bike use, which is awesome, but we chose to walk as the weather was so spectacular. This accommodation is very much a homelike feel than a sterile hotel, which has its pluses and minuses. So, I give it top marks as, for the price for what you get, you simply can’t beat it!

Ibusuki is a wonderful location with great food, great...
Ibusuki is a wonderful location with great food, great beaches and even better people.
On first look it may look like it has had it’s high tide many years ago, there is so much potential and there are projects in place to rejuvenate and inspire. A new beach is being created to capitalise on the existing beautiful white beach a 10min walk from the station.
Also! World famous award-winning ramen just 200m from the station at Menya Jiro (New Yorkers may already know that name).
Enjoy the unique to Ibusuki volcanic sand bath and cross the street for a simple and tasty meal at Angel or grab some tasty treats at the store downstairs.
Sadly, the best beaches are private at overpriced and stuck-in-the-80s hotels so stay at Kokoro-no-Yado for a reasonably priced spa experience with a walk across a sandbar to the island of Chiranjima. Then hit the beach I mentioned earlier and bring a parasol or anything for shade and enjoy the sparkling water.
Visit Ibusuki, walk around and see what it was and can be. Support Ibusuki. I think you’ll agree it’s worth your time.

Not much to see here.
Not much to see here. On the one evening we wandered through the streets the city seemed deserted and empty. The only real attraction is the sand bath. But as stated on there website you are not allowed to use them when you are menstruating. Why that is I do not know. I feel it is very ignorant and intolerant. The warm sand could be very beneficial to people with period cramps. Menstruating is not dirty or unhygienic.
The onsen hotel is spacious and all the staff are so readily to assist and answer any queries that I had. Room is spacious and clean. the outdoor onsen is a gem, so relaxing and well landscaped. Our omakase meals tasted great and different dishes for the 2 nights that we stayed. One of the staff even recognized us when we were walking to the train station after our sandbath at Saraku and picked us up to drive us back to the hotel. We really appreciate that and save us the 30mins journey back hotel on my own.
Sweet and clean little family Ryokan close to the harbour of Ibusuki, about half an hour walk from the hot sand spa. If you stay, you must have the excellent traditional Japanese food for dinner, that is prepared by the sweet and friendly hostess with a lot of love.
Great location on foot from sand bath, onsen, restaurants, konbini. Nice and responsive host: clear instructions, restaurant recommendations and very kind. We were by car, there was parking reserved for one car. Recommend this place if you visit Ibusuki!
It is located in the isolated area. It is inconvenient for the people travelling with public transportation, however, the hotel provided the quality of healing time.
It’s really cheap. We were in Ibusuki for just a night so this is really a good option. The house is also very clean with more than sufficient amenities.
