Very much a "second city" compared to Tokyo, Osaka etc.
Very much a "second city" compared to Tokyo, Osaka etc. Not a place you'd keep returning to every few years, but I expected that. I was trying to avoid the crowds of tourists in those primary cities, and Fukuoka provided a nice, pleasant stay, without too much crowding.
There are numerous parks and museums, and Fukuoka is quickly establishing itself as a culinary centre - lots of very good food at practically every street corner small-business restaurant, especially their traditional Hakata Ramen stalls, and I also went to both a highly recommended non-Michelin restaurant and a two-Michelin restaurant, both of which were excellent.

We enjoyed wandering along the canal at night.
We enjoyed wandering along the canal at night. It was all lit up and came alive and was very nice. We made a trip out to Fukuoka Tower which was totally worth it. The view was fantastic and we went at sunset and the queue wasn't that bad, so very little time waiting to take the lift up to the top. Canal Shopping Centre comes alive at night with light shows and fountains which were great to see. We like Fukuoka and thought it had a lot to offer.

The city is really walkable.
The city is really walkable. It's actually fairly easy to walk everywhere as the roads are pretty flat. Food's also abundant. If you had a short amount of time and want to try a lot of things, I do recommend you stay around Hakata Station as there are at least 4 different shopping malls there and a huge array of eateries - I think you can try every popular thing there. If you'd like to shop tax-free, do allocate more time on the day of your shopping as you have to claim your receipts on the same day you bought your items and there are a LOT of people that'll be doing the same, so expect long queues of at least 30 minutes.

Fukuoka is a nice city to visit, esp if you love great food and shopping. Not too much of sightseeing in the city itself, most of sightseeing can be done in one day if you have a car or knows how to get around very well. People are friendly and locations are easy to find via google map.

Fukuoka is a very convenient transport hub, linking the other cities on Kyushu island as well as other cities in Western Japan such as Okayama and Hiroshima. The cost of riding the subway from Fukuoka airport to the city centre was less than 300 Yen, which is outrageously cheap. I wished I could have spent more time exploring the city because it seems to have some hidden gems that I did not get to.

nice hotel that could keep your luggage for a few days if you check in again later. thats what we did when we explored further out from hakata to the rest of kyushu.
easy check in and out, 2 coin laundry machines, vending machines, microwave and ice dispenser on level 1. the reception was together with the cafe which was quite unique.
room size was the typical japanese sized room. layout was very thoughtful so everything needed is available. i love how the room light brightness can be adjusted just beside the bed.
I was able to stay at a very reasonable price in my case. Convenience stores, supermarkets, and the train station are all within walking distance. It takes about 25 minutes to Fukuoka Airport by train. (Transfer to subway at Hakata).
You can use the hot spring and sauna in the annex building for free, not in the hotel. Considering the price and location, I would use this hotel again when using Fukuoka Airport instead of the Hakata and Tenjin area. The staff was also very helpful.
The location is really fantastic! Around 5-10 minutes walk from Hakata station depending on your speed. Best if you choose Fukuoka as the main hub then traveling the nearby areas by JR Kansai part. The room is typically a Japanese business hotel. Satisfied as it should be. They provide free snacks from afternoon till evening. I have tried the donut and it's really great!
The hotel is in a great location, near Hakata rail and bis stations and not far from Fukuoka airport. The location is close to many of Fukuoka city's main attractions. The hotel staff are pleasant and helpful and having a spa facility is a nice bonus.
We stayed at the hotel to catch the ferry to Busan the next day, so the location was very convenient (walking distance to the ferry terminal). Room was old but clean, classic business hotel. It does the job and the city of Fukuoka is lovely.
