Capitale giordana in rapida espansione, Amman è una potenza economica che si estende su varie colline. In cima a una di queste sorge la Cittadella, che contiene resti del Tempio romano di Ercole, di una chiesa bizantina e di due costruzioni dell'8° secolo, precisamente una moschea e un palazzo.
Sempre qui si trova il Museo Archeologico Giordano, mentre ai piedi della collina è situato un teatro romano, in parte costruito nella roccia. Intorno al teatro sorgono moderne unità abitative, ma l'architettura più all'avanguardia è visibile nel quartiere degli affari in via di sviluppo di Al Abdali.
Una volta terminate, le costruzioni più alte di Amman saranno le Jordan Gate Towers, che ospiteranno uno degli hotel di fascia alta della città. Ad Amman è possibile trovare marchi internazionali di ristoranti e bar accanto alla cucina più tradizionale, senza dimenticare i tanti punti ristoro all'interno del grande Mecca Mall e del Grand City Mall, che include anche un cinema.
