The rapidly expanding Jordanian capital, Amman is an economic powerhouse spread over various hills. Atop one sits the Citadel, containing remains of the Roman Temple of Hercules, a Byzantine church and an 8th-century mosque and palace.
Also here is the Jordan Archaeological Museum, and at the foot of the hill is a Roman theatre, part built in the rock. Modern housing blocks surround it, but the most avant-garde architecture is in the developing Al Abdali business district.
The tallest Amman structures will be the Jordan Gate Towers and will house one of the city’s high-rise hotels. International brands of restaurants and bar can be found alongside more traditional cuisine in Amman, and many eateries are in the large Mecca Mall and Grand City Mall, which also has a cinema.
Nearby is the desert-like vegetation of Al Hussein National Park, and the Royal Automobile Museum which features cars of King Hussein, ruler for over 40 years and after whom are named city sights such as the King Hussein Business Park and mosque. The King Abdullah I Mosque has a beautiful blue dome, while Abu Darweesh Mosque at Amman’s highest point is a striking black-and-white structure.
Booking.com’s Amman accommodation includes 5-star hotels, apartments in the embassy district, and cheap hostels, all within easy reach of Queen Alia Airport.

Amman is a bustling city with historical sites, great food and quirky shops. I loved the citadel, which only costs 3 JD to enter. At Hasheem Restaurant, you can try authentic Jordanian cuisine for an extremely low price. Taxi drivers are helpful and I didn't feel like they were trying to scam me. Clothing is very cheap here. I bought a belt for only 5 JD and the quality seems very high. However, tourists need to be careful with persistent shopkeepers who invite them in and charge them too much. Always bargain for a lower price. The price they ask is not set in stone but is just the start of a negotiation.

A bustling capital with some interesting roads.
A bustling capital with some interesting roads. Drivers like to honk their horn most of the time! I guess because of the congested traffic state.
Old downtown is very nice and offer a great reflection of the Jordanian culture and personality.

It was a beautiful city.
It was a beautiful city. The procedures were smooth and comfortable. The architectural style of the city was modern and beautiful. The level of food was good and the prices were between medium and high. In terms of the cleanliness of the city, it was very good. There was crowding at times.
The location of the hotel is the best. It is in the downtown Amman close to the city's main tourist attractions and all the vibrant commerce around. The room for one person is a little small but it is enough. The staff is friendly and the breakfast is good and it is located in a very nice space on the top floor. Shortly before traveling to Jordan I read about the Circassian community in the country and it was really cool to discover that the hotel belongs to a Circassian family.
The Castle Star Hotel has great location in Old city of Amman, very close to shops and landmarks. The room was very clean and provide comfort and great view. The staff is very friendly and provide great hospitality. Also very helpful advising us how to get around. There is a beautiful view from the terrace-my favourite spot to feel the pace of the city. The hotel offers also good breakfast in traditional Jordanian style. The fridge in the room is a big advantage .
This was my first stay at the New Merryland hotel as I arrived from Canada to Jordan. The hotel was located in the heart of Amman and the staff were exceptionally helpful especially Ahmed. He took care of my booking and helped me when I arrived and made sure my stay was great.
Small and cozy hotel in downtown Amman. Excellent location, walking distance to Citadel, Roman theater and Rainbow street, but quiet enough as it is just a bit distant from all crowded and traffic noise. Nice local Jordanian breakfast.
