A darling of Shakespeare, beautiful Verona is the literary home of Romeo and Juliet. The medieval families of Montague and Capulet immortalised in the tragic play did actually exist and some buildings relating to the Montagues are still present.
Sorry to disappoint, but the place purporting to have been Juliet's house in Verona was not actually where she lived. However, it’s still worth suspending reality for a while and stepping out onto the balcony to see if Romeo turns up.
Another of the must-see Verona sights is the Arena, a largely intact Roman amphitheatre which is now the spectacular setting for outdoor summer operas. Smaller Roman relics include the stone bridge that crosses the river by the Roman theatre whose remains are partly beneath a house.
The city’s narrow streets house many cafes and restaurants which offer cheaper fare than the touristy ones by the Arena, although admittedly the views are less impressive. Life in Verona is laidback and elegant, so expect to see some well-heeled Italians on a post-dinner passeggiata.
Verona Airport is a little out of town, so you’ll need to take a bus to get to your Verona hotel, apartment or B&B. Book with Booking.com for the best choice.
Lovely city - 1 day/ 1 night enough. There is a beautiful theatre, with some great events-much easier to get tickets than in Milan or Venice, and lovely Christmas markets.
Nice to meander - relaxing add-on as on train route between Venice and Milan
Winter chilly so wrap up- scarf, hat and gloves definitely needed but no crowds so easy, quick access to everything- no queues! Worth going on fornicular train for amazing view
Museum has partial lift access only to some areas (not to parapets).
Definitely worth a short visit. Charming town.

Verona centre is quite small so in Winter 2 days is adequate to see the main sights. Note that a lot of the museums are closed on Mondays so if you purchase the Verona Card (which we did), try to ensure you visit the main sights on another day. Restaurants are plentiful but just refer to TripAdvisor for reviews as some are touristy but not necessarily good value. Shops are largely designer and for souvenir hunters. We had two very good meals close to our appartment (La Piazetta Osteria Enoteca). Book ahead as gets busy. Foccacias by Ponte Pietra for a cheap snack before a ride on the Funicular or visit to the Teatro is recommended. Wear comfortable shoes as there is a lot of walking and steps. Very enjoyable for family with older children or couples.

Verona is a charming city with so much to offer!
Verona is a charming city with so much to offer! My favorite spot was Piazza delle Erbe, surrounded by history and great cafés. I loved dining at Trattoria al Pompiere, where the risotto was unforgettable. Getting around was a breeze—most places are walkable, and buses are convenient. For solo travelers, visiting Castel San Pietro for stunning panoramic views is a must!

Another northern Italian jewel of a city with a lovely, lively old town, a large Roman amphitheater still in use for opera and the next Olympics, and some of the most interesting churches - all Italian Gothic - we visited during our 5 week trip. (And we saw ALOT of churches.) And or course - Romeo and Juliet!

City centre is magical and full of iconic places.
City centre is magical and full of iconic places. It can get crowded on a weekend though, and restaurants should be booked a few days ahead! I felt like 2-3 days was more than enough to see everything you need to see.

We came to the Opera and this hotel was chosen because of the free parking and the relatively short distance from the Opera. It was also very easy to find, it is literally on the outskirts of the old city. The hotel has good rooms, I love the bath, which is a rarity these days. I also want to recommend a good bar near the reception - it was very nice to order freshly squeezed orange juice and pasta with pesto after a long journey. It was a good plus to eat around 3 p.m. without going anywhere in the city. Which is a problem for Italy.
tommaso night porter an absolute gentleman, and needs recognition. polite and friendly and a big help to guest from padraig and roisin thanks.
the cleaners clean rooms daily brilliant to know. place is nice and relaxed. 25min walk to verona buses at walking distance. bus to train station and airport from there. local bus to lake garda too so convenient. hotel modernise and think doing more renovations while we stayed and bathroom was good quality too.
A very good hotel, very clean with excellent staff and facilities. It is ideally placed near to the railway station, about 1 mile away from Piazza Bra, the main square in Verona. There are regular busses into the city if one doesn't want the 20 minute walk. Also a transfer bus to the airport runs every 20 minutes from the station.
We stayed twice in 10 days and would definitely return..
Fantastic location, able to walk everywhere in Verona, clean, great wifi, one of the best breakfast we had in Italy!! The breakfast lady was amazing!! So kind and welcoming! She is the best staff member! Thank you to her!
incredible location. the room was beautiful, minimalist style and spacious. very modern furnishing which I like. this was the best hotel in our 10 day trip in Northern Italy.
