Such a nightmare during daytime. The crowds and particularly tour groups full of people terrified to lose touch with their group leader which makes them exceptionally rude, are aweful. The so-called tourist tax is laughable because those assigned to implement it are just there for a chat with their mates and do nothing (and that was a day in June when the tax was applied.) I pity the poor 50,000 that live there. It's a disgrace to residents and visitors alike that more controls aren't implemented to reduce the numbers. But of course it's greed that drives the opposition to controls, both on the part of those selling services and those collecting local taxes and revenue.

I visit Venice every 2 years for the Biennale.
I visit Venice every 2 years for the Biennale. Each time was around August, with high temp and lots of tourists. This time, end September, normal weather, less tourists.
Venice is a city to be walked. Do not choose the crowed center and the busy streets. There are more scenic and authentic places, better food at osterias and relaxing cafe at the edges of the island.
Take a tour and you will not regret it.
And don't forget the weekly pass for all the transportation media, as tickets are expensive

It was a town unlike any we've been in, and we have travelled extensively. The idea of building this small City around a series of islands surrounded by canals is fascinating, especially since all of it is serviced by small boats! Easy to find a good meal, a good dessert, and a good cold beer or prosecco. The down side was that not only was it incredibly crowded with people, but the ambience went downhill when you were surrounded by touristy shops.

Venice city is a very small city. 3 days is normal for a efficient trip.
Travel from airport to city is about 1 hour by water. But you may walk everywhere in the city.
Walking around the small streets and shopping from well designed shops are tipsy.

My second stay was at the Le Isole Hotel in Venice. Amazing breakfast (maybe even the best you can get in hotels in all of Italy of hotels of 3-star level), cleaning services, and very kind staff. The hotel is just in the center of Venice, a few steps from St Marco and it is super easy to get to the airport and back with the ferry which goes from the Venice airport because the station is just a few minutes walk from the hotel. Very calm, even if it's in the center, with clean rooms and good room service. I will be back again for sure!
THIS IS A BEAUTIFUL BOUTIQUE HOTEL, AND FOR FIRST TIME TRAVELORS TO VENICE IT WAS THE PERFECT LOCATION. IT IS IN THE HEART IF THE BEST PART OF VENICE, AND ALLOWS EASY ACCESS TO EVERYWHERE ELSE. THE ROOM IS BEAUTIFULLY SET UP, COSY, CLEANED DAILY, AND SPOTLESSLY CLEAN. WE HAD A SMALLER ROOM COMPARED TO OTHERS BUT IT WAS PERFECT FOR THE TWO OF US. THE STAFF ARE FANTASTIC AND HELPUL, AND WENT OUT OF THEIR WAY TO ENSURE WE WERE COMFORTABLE. I WOULD STAY HERE AGAIN AND AGAIN IF I RETURN TO VENICE.
Very friendly couple host. Nice and clean room, great shower. Best breakfast selection we had in Italy with meats and cheese, cereal, biscuits and fruit to hand.
