Breakfast was ample, plenty of choices, excellent fresh fruit. Located among undulating meadows and Chianti vineyards, Siena shines as a jewel of the Tuscan Renaissance, and has been listed as a UNESCO World Heritage Site. Experience the famous Palio di Siena horse race, catch the pulse of the city at Piazza del Campo, visit the beautiful Duomo cathedral…and fall in love with this charming city!
Founded by Etruscans around 900 BC, the city was first conquered by Romans and later by Lombards. The Middle Ages saw it becoming the independent and flourishing Republic of Siena, until its annexation to the Grand Duchy of Tuscany.
The economic difficulties that followed turned out to be a blessing for the preservation of its historic centre. Adorned with frescoes by Ghirlandaio and bass-reliefs by Donatello, Lorenzo Ghiberti, and Jacopo della Quercia, the Duomo represents the highest expression of this well-kept legacy. The shell-shaped Piazza del Campo, with the Palazzo Pubblico and the Gaia Fountain, is still the heart and soul of the city. Follow the labyrinth of narrow streets and passages that irradiate from there and you will be enchanted by its romantic atmosphere from ancient times.
The closest airports are Peretola Airport in Florence and Galileo Galilei International Airport in Pisa, though Guglielmo Marconi Airport in Bologna is also well connected. While planning your trip, don’t forget to check out the Siena accommodation deals on Booking.com!

It was our first time in Siena, what a beautiful city, so clean, people very friendly and helpful, fantastic places to eat. Wasn’t ready though for steep streets, but this made it more unique. Will definitely return.

Siena is just a perfect little jewel. The history...! Plus, it's less busy than Florence and is a great jumping off point for visiting other places in Tuscany. The food was good (AWAY from Piazza il Campo) and shops were plentiful.

One of my favorite destinations in Italy.
One of my favorite destinations in Italy. Saturated with history and art, with significant archaeological, historical and cultural/art destinations. Better enjoyed if you do aa little homework (Wikipedia--please donate to them) before going there and following up while you are there. Good restaurants abound and the city is perfect for wandering and people watching. A beautiful medieval city.

We stayed close to the Piazza Il Campo, and it was the best location! You're within walking distance to SO many restaurants, shops and attractions. It's a fantastic town. What we also enjoyed was renting a car and driving to nearby towns and hot springs. Awesome countryside and beautiful towns with incredible food and shops, all within an hours drive of Siena. Less crowded and nice than going to Florence, in our opinion.

A beautiful historic city, easy to walk, but can get crowded. Many places to eat, with honest local cuisine, if you get away from the tourist hotspots.
Piazza del Campo is splendid, the Duomo outstanding externally, but the queues to get in are daunting

The town is just large enough to offer lots to see but small enough to walk and explore. The duomo is gorgeous and the Piazza del Campo is a great place to eat and people watch. Parking is a challenge but taxis are fairly easy to get. We did struggle one rainy night since everyone seemed to be needing a cab. I googled getting a cab in Siena and found a phone number that helped us!

Breakfast was nice, we had a croissant, some smaller bits and coffee. Our host was very lovely. It was a good hotel with parking and a safe place to leave your car if you are driving. It was around a 45 minute walk to Siena historical town and along a main road so I would suggest driving. Our host gave us a map and pointed out free places to park nearby which was helpful. The rooms and bathroom were okay - good size, comfortable and clean.Tea and coffee facilities available in a seperate communal area which we didn't use.
Beautiful traditional room, very clean and spacious, the bathroom as well. All the staff very helpful and smiley. Really nice breakfast and the staff asked us if we are done so as to empty the buffet, they didnt act like robots as in other hotels, where they empty strictly at ending time of the breakfast.
Last but not least, the hotel is perfectly located near the old town by foot, and next to the train/bus station. The best choice in Siena!!
You could not pick a better location to stay in Siena. Within an easy walk (relatively flat) to the major attractions plus handy to the bus station and supermarket. Spacious and well appointed apartment and staying for a week the washing and cooking facilities were a real bonus. Nicolo gave us some great restaurant recommendations, make sure you try out Taverna De Cecco so far the best we have experienced in Italy (make sure you book).
Very friendly and helpful staff. Convenient parking facilities which were a must for us as parking in Siena is virtually impossible with the ZTL. Hotel Athena is within an easy walking distance of the centre which is another big plus.
The terrace restaurant and bar is excellent with a beautiful view of Siena
Old school hotel steeped in history, not 5* modern luxury but doesn’t need to be, lovely staff, unbeatable location, great breakfast, and parking on site in centre of Siena !!
