San Cassiano is very centrally located for exploring and hiking the Dolomites. Short drives over stunningly beautiful passes to Val Gardena and Cortina de Ampezzo, Corvara is 10 minutes with no pass to go over.
Purchased a lift ticket for all of the lifts in the San Cassiano area and had great hikes up on the mountains where the views are spectacular.
San Cassiano is not large, but has a good grocery store within walking distance of the Lagacio and a cute downtown area.

typical, well organized alpine town.
typical, well organized alpine town. Perfect for a ski holiday in the winter or active trekking holiday in the off-ski season.
Tip: since it was the last weekend of the season, many places are already closed (restaurants and shops), so the options are limited, but we knew that. On the other hand, there is no crowd, so its perfect for a stress-free time.

San Cassiano is the best ski area in the Sella Ronda area - sunny all day, great pistes, empty lifts. If you want to go to Marmolada, you can go directly from San Cassiano to Arabba (without Corvara - saving time). Another nearby area I recommend is Alta Badia and Colfosco (no super ski pass required). If you go to Sella Ronda, I recommend visiting Pass Pordoi (2950m) - comparable views as from Marmolada, no queues, few people.

The Alta Badia area is in my opinion the most stunning place i have ever skied. It is not good for experts but if you are like me and been skiing for 40 years then perfectly prepared long blue runs are ideal .The Hidden Valley run is a must do - the only problem there is having to stop and take your gloves off every couple of minutes to take a photo as every corner gives you a new stunning view.

A great place for skiing with a family.
A great place for skiing with a family. An incredible selection of all types of slopes and minimal queues at the lifts. We appreciated the ski bus from the apartment to the slopes. I only missed an option for night skiing.

It was our 8th time we visited Lagacio and we love this place. Rooms are so big and comfortable. Nice sauna area. The most perfect breakfast you can imagine. Sabina is always extremely helpful and kind, just like the concierge and the lady at the breakfast area. We travel a lot, also outside Europe, but if there was only one hotel we could go to in the future if would be Lagacio
Breakfast as well as the evening meal were excellent, with sufficient choice and a presentation (mise en plat) of the dishes akin to a very good restaurant. Staff was very friendly. This is obviously a very well managed hotel, family owned with the owners visibly engaged and contactable.
Amazing place. Comfortable and spacious apartment. Great spa and breakfast. Within minutes walk/drive from Alta Badia cable cars and hiking routes. Very helpfull in consulting on hiking trails (Thank u Sylvia!).
Loved the small town (st Kassian) and the surroundings.
Absolutely lovely boutique hotel … we had a recently renovated room which was terrific. Half board was amazing … lovely breakfast buffet and amazing dinner.
