Undulating beside the Bay of Naples, this UNESCO World Heritage city is a maze of narrow streets and funicular railways. Although it has an incredible array of churches and monuments, it’s the sheer energy, pulsating life, and buzz of Vespas that really make it exciting.
At first you could mistake this for chaos, but given time you’ll see there’s method to the madness. The stunning, curved portico of the Royal Palace. The perfectly thin pizzas which originated here. The red pepper trinkets to ward off the evil eye adorning practically every old town doorway. All are crafted to perfection.
While all this goes on at street level, below is Underground Naples – a series of visitable tunnels and even a Graeco-Roman theatre which you stop at before emerging into someone’s house!
Head up to the Posillipo area for stunning views of the city and Vesuvius in the distance. The volcano itself can be visited and looking down from it towards Pompeii and Herculaneum gives context to the thousands of artefacts now on display in the city’s National Archaeological Museum.
As for accommodation, Booking.com has a wealth of hotels near Naples Airport, old town B&Bs, city centre apartments and more to help you make the most of your stay.
It was convenient to get to Regia Di Caserta by train.
It was convenient to get to Regia Di Caserta by train. A beautiful palace.
Well worth a visit. The palace of Naples is also very lovely.
Naples is a dirty city and we were shocked at how much rubbish there was lying around.
We were also targeted by 3 pick pockets on the metro so it is crucial that all valuables are kept close to your person. They were not successful.

Loved the culture and vibe.
Loved the culture and vibe. The architecture is beautiful and the history second to non.
We walked all around Naples and found it fairly easy to navigate thanks to our trusted friend GOGGLE.
I find the scooters a pain and this reduces your ability to relax and concentrate.
Naples is a dirty city, but we all know that and it does not retract from the experience.

Naples is the perfect place for travellers who love an adventure. It is a chaotic, noisy and busy city full of passionate, fiery and excitable people who live their lives very differently to most Europeans. If a little bit of excitement and chaos sounds like fun to you, then I would thoroughly recommend Naples for a truly unique experience. Naples honestly feels like a little bit of India inside Europe. If you like a more relaxed and orderly atmosphere on your holidays and a more adventurous kind of travel is not your style, then I would recommend giving Naples a miss, or just visiting on a day trip.

Its not Florence.
Its not Florence. But there's a real energy that Florence doesn't have. It's raw but I always felt safe. NO reason to fear. Walk Spaccanapoli and via Tribunali/ Via Port Alba. to experience Naples at it best.

Naples is a busy, crazy beautiful city! Many things to do.
Naples is a busy, crazy beautiful city! Many things to do. Like any big city in the US (NYC, Philadelphia, etc) it appears crowded and chaotic but is truly beautiful with many interesting sites as long as you are willing to deal with all that comes along with this historic and multi-layered city.
And the food and drinks were great!
We mostly got around with taxis and had no problem with being overcharged, but there is also plenty of buses and trains easily accessible.
I recently had a short stay at Hotel des Artistes in Naples, Italy, and it was truly a pleasure experience. The hotel is located in a charming and lively neighborhood with easy access to many restaurants, and shops. The best part of our stay was the welcoming staff. The staff was exceptionally friendly, welcoming, and helpful, and they went above and beyond to ensure that my stay was comfortable and enjoyable.
The building was dated and the lift add to its charm.
The place is really cool! The location is close to the port, what was super convenient for me. That was quiet enough in the evening, without noise/music from the street or neighbours. The staff is polite, friendly, unobtrusive, careful. Despite the fact that the trip was working, I fell in love with Italy and the hotel and its staff clearly contributed to my impression.
Our host was very kind and helped us with our bags. We thought this location was perfect in Naples! It is so great to be close to the port and food and night life and overall felt very safe. The bathroom was great, very clean. We had a nice view and the bed was comfortable. We had everything we needed for the 3 nights we were there. Great introduction to Italy.
We stayed here for our last night in Italy for our honeymoon. The hotel is new and beautiful! Everything was very clean and the staff was very attentive. It’s not close to the main city, but they have a shuttle that will take you there until 4/5PM and otherwise can call you a taxi.
After staying in hotels/hostels in other cities in Italy I stayed here and was very happy with it. Very clean place and provide toiletries. It is close to good attractions and restaurants.
