Set at the south-western tip of Y-shaped Lake Como, the town of Como offers wonderful views of the surrounding Alps. A funicular railway runs up to the village of Brunate from where you can see Switzerland on the opposite shore.
The peaceful location has long been a favourite with celebrities, but the town has been around since Roman times. In fact, 2 of its most famous sons – Pliny the Elder and Younger – are commemorated in statues on the façade of the 14th-century cathedral. The next door Broletto dates to the previous century, and even older are the remains of the medieval walls and Castello Baradello, sitting on a hill overlooking the town.
Much more modern in style is the Casa del Fascio, built during Mussolini’s rule. The streets between here and the waterfront are packed with shops, bars and restaurants, and Lake Como boat trips depart from the small marina.
The neighbouring park houses a temple-like museum about Alessandro Volta (another former resident), and around the shoreline is elegant Villa Olmo which looks across landscaped gardens to the water’s edge.
The Como accommodation on Booking.com includes luxury lakefront hotels, town centre B&Bs and cheap apartments near San Giovanni Train Station, which offers direct services to Milan.

Amazing city. Worth the trip.
Amazing city. Worth the trip. The views and the Funicular were great. We did a small food tour which was also lovely. The city is very quiet at night but we did not explore Bellagio. Enjoyed our time. Book a hotel and room with a view. It's definitely worth it.

Como is a lovely city/town that has a lot to offer! We took the cable car up the mountain to get an amazing view of the lake and other surrounding mountains (€6.60 each, return). We walked around and shopped and enjoyed the christmas markets.. there are excursions and boat rentals, cruises and hikes around that you can also fill up an itinerary planning!
The food is AMAZING. We highly recommend Mass Wine Bar. Phenomenal.
The people are so friendly (we were in venice for two nights before coming here and we did not have a great experience with the people/service/food so this was refreshing!!)
We are sad leaving, stay here for at least 3/4 nights.
Enjoy the magic of como✨✨

It is so beautiful. Not many times can you say that a city centre is wonderful.
So many little alleys and lanes to explore. Great little restaurants. One small warning.Beware of excessive no warning cover charges. Easlily fixed by checking before ordering a meal.
The lake and all the villages in the area are fantastic

This could be the best place I have ever stayed in during many years of traveling to Italy.
Excellent communication with the owner.
2-minute walk from the Lake (ferry ticket office) and a 24-7 Supermarket.
Excellent kitchen and large clean rooms.
TWO balconies.
Seriously, this is an excellent accommodation.
The room was small, but it was fantastically placed to have a superb view of Lake Como.
I'd advised the hotel that the booking was to celebrate a special event, and they left complimentary Prosecco in the room - a nice touch.
Breakfast was good, and the coffee was wonderful.
Would definitely recommend.
Owner Elena met us at the hotel and was lovely and helpful
Room was modern meets old and very comfortable
Centrally located to close walking distant to ferry to explore lake Como and restaurants and retail shops in Como
Right next door to a Gelato Bar too !!
Lift was a good bonus
The apartment was beautiful & perfectly located in Como Old Town; a 10 minute walk from the lake, and very central to all restaurants and sites around. It was also very secure & I felt extremely safe throughout the trip. It had all the necessary facilities for a 5 day stay in Italy.
The location- corner property overlooking lake Como and opposite ferry. Close to restaurants and cafes. Our room was clean and comfortable. It met our needs. Hotel does need some TLC but I would recommend it.
