The staff was very helpful. The location in the mountain was a great view. The drive up to hotel a little trickier than I expected. Great location in any direction to explore the valley area. Breakfast and bar were very good. Had a grand stay. Would recommend the hotel

Hirondelle Laconda, a small, family-run hotel, lies above the captivating town of Aosta with a splendid view of the mountains. In April, we woke to the sound of a cuckoo and the magic of mist-enshrouded mountains and were then treated to an exceptional breakfast of so many homemade cakes and cheeses, yogurts and fruits, perfect cappuccino, muesli and other delights that we might have spent the day in the dining room rather than heading off on our journey! The charming sisters Alicia, the chef, and Nathalie, the hotelier, as well their parents are committed to an idea of hospitality that is so genuine and rare these days, evident in their attentiveness, cordiality, and cheerfulness as well as in the spotless rooms, the well-trained staff, and in their willingness to help plan a memorable stay in the Aosta Valley. Such is their genuine kindness and good humor that when we departed we felt as if we were more than guests and were saying goodbye to beloved family members. We had thought of staying at a large hotel in Courmayeur with a spa and I believe a Michelin star, but we were all so happy with our choice, knowing that what we received was a unique experience, a treasured, star-studded highlight of our trip to Italy.

Great variety of ski resorts within a short distance of each other and thus easily reachable. Also the prices are more reasonable than on the Swiss/French side of the mountains - especielly on the "local" resorts like Crevacol or Torgnon

Aosta is an unexpectedly rich historical gem, with roots going back to Roman times, boasting impressive ruins like a triumphal arch, ancient walls, and a theater. All of this is immersed in a stunning Alpine landscape, creating a unique combination of Southern charm and breathtaking mountain scenery. It’s a rare blend that offers history lovers and nature enthusiasts the best of both worlds.

The old town, particularly the Via Praetoria, has loads of interesting shops and some excellent and reasonably priced restaurants.
The Pila cable car is a great way to easily get out of the town into the mountains, with the wonderful Yeti restaurant at the top.

Valle d'Aosta is a less frequented cosy corner of Italy.
Valle d'Aosta is a less frequented cosy corner of Italy. Lots of history (more medieval castles than churches!), Roman, Gothic, Baroque...
Aosta is a perfect base for exploration of the whole region. Lots of nice littel restaurants with local, typical food (menus tend to be similar ;-).
Torino (Turin) is only a good hour driving away, if you need a day in a bigger city between time to enjoy nature and the smaller mountain villages.
When traveling by car, consider using Gd.St.Bernard pass, rather than the Mont Blanc tunnel (which took us 2 hours waiting, while the Bernard tunnel was fluid).

Aosta is a nice change for a more cost-effective ski trip.
Aosta is a nice change for a more cost-effective ski trip. It's a working town with more industrial parts on the outskirts and a prettier old-town in the centre.
We really enjoy the skiing in Pila - a good mix of tree lined, interesting runs and more open runs for a smaller resort. Lots of Italians skiing as well as tourists. Also the opportunity to ski in Courmayeur and Cervinia for the day as part of some ski passes.
Some good restaurants in town and the suburbs and a very large supermarket, so great for self-catering.
Pleasant and picturesque drive from Milan airport too.

Great central location in Aosta Valley. Places like Chamonix, Montreux, Torino and Milano easily reachable within a few hours. Lot's of sights to see in the area, like castles and the beautiful Saint Bernhard's mountain pass.
Spacious rooms, good parking possibilities, friendly reception: hotel is only a couple of kilometres from Aosta town. Hotel is a good starting point for hiking.
The hotel is well located near the city centre. Its basic which was fine for us on a 1 nights stay. Aosta is a pleasant city with plenty to see and do.
