Host was very friendly. It's a camper van so you know what to expect - tight quarters. But as such, they are great. The back porch in their house is full of cool things like a koi pool. The private bathroom is a blessing. The bed was so comfortable.

Nice to have a place for a family of five without the cost of two rooms in most places. The bathroom was fantastic! Great shower, heated floor, lots of space. Comfortable beds

This was exactly the experience I was looking for in Iceland. Most people live together in one portion of the island. This made for a very homey feel. The restaurants weren't touristy. People who live on the island were actually dining in the restaurants. We enjoyed touring the island while watching kids play in the playgrounds and families go about their day. The island is walkable, but we did bring a car for quicker access to some of the sites. The volcano museum was amazing.
This was actually my favorite place is Iceland. If you golf, go to the amazing golf course.

Fantastic place to relax and see some unparalleled views.
Fantastic place to relax and see some unparalleled views. Wildlife was great, hikes were awesome, and there were some decent restaurants (hard to find) but worth it. Locals on the island were not that welcoming however.

Vestmannaeyjar is such a great excursion destination, definitely not to be missed. Travelled with a kid.
Highlights are:
Hike on Heimaklettur.
Swimmingpool with best slide in all Iceland.
Viking museum is cute and inexpensive.
Museum about the volcanic eruption is superb.
Great for bird watching - puffins.
Favourite restaurant - GOTT.
Vigtin Bakhús - great bakery downtown + playground next to it.

We (kids and parents) loved the Volcano Museum, a hike to the top of the volcanic cone (great pictures and some snowflakes!), a self-guided walking tour in the town (in Rick Steves' guidebook), eating at Gott and a kebab place in town, and driving out to see puffins (just beginning to arrive in early June). Beautiful flowers and such friendly people! Glad we brought our rental car over on the ferry to get us where we wanted to go easily.
I would have liked to stay another full day or two at least to experience the place and the people, see the puffin/whale rehabilitation facility and take a boat ride out to the uninhabited islands if that's possible.

Peaceful small town with rich and fascinating history, namely it's fishing industry and near annihilation by a volcano. I recommend hiking over and to the top of the volcano and visiting the volcano museum.

The ferry to get to the island was immaculately clean and ran on time both ways. While a smaller boat for such open seas, the sailing was still good and not too rough! The island itself was picturesque and I wish I could have stayed longer.

Very comfort beds, very nice interior and the location of the guesthouse. It is small town but you will find a lot of places to visit just in 2-10 min ride - puffins, restaurants, easy short hikes just for the relaxation at the end of the day etc. The ferry in 3 min drive. The location is really good. And some tea also was good thing. :)
Ideally located, amazing and friendly host which make you feel at home. The apartment has everything you need and is a great place to get the best out of Heimaey
