It is okay, but also not very special. Like other cities in India, the negatives are the widespread plastic waste and lack of sidewalks. However, the air is slightly better compared to most other cities.

I am from neighborhoods of Kochi so clearly I am biased. But Kochi is turning out to be an interesting place with great food culture, excellent metro service, fantastic water metro and cruises, emerging nightlife, lot of places to visit and many destinations within day travel from Kochi.

Cochin is a real hidden gem.
Cochin is a real hidden gem. So much of Kerela thankfully is not developed and rural. The greenery is striking and adds to the beauty of the place. People too are very helpful and will go out of their way to help or make you feel welcome. On the negative side, there is a lot of rubbish around and also in the rivers which is very sad. We were told that this was after the new year’s celebrations and that the place would get cleaned. I hope so as it’s beauty lies in nature.

Cochin was very very busy when we were then due to the Christmas celebrations , this didn’t spoil our stay, I would recommend getting a guided tour rather than wandering about unaccompanied as the street vendors can be a little persistent, however having travelled to India on a few occasions, this isn’t out of the norm, the local people are very friendly and polite and are not aggressive in any way at all.
We booked the cultural centre trip with dinner at a local restaurant afterwards through booking.com, the show was fascinating and very informative, The guided TukTuk tour with local guide and hotel pick up was excellent too booked through booking.com, we booked the backwaters with lunch included also with booking.com, this unfortunately, was cancelled by the operators the night before the trip, which had been booked months in advance! Our hotel kept trying to contact them to confirm pick up times, they did not return calls to confirm as promised and then would not pick up the phone, this is not acceptable and I wouldn’t recommend this unreliable company ( This was our Christmas Day Lunch on the Backwaters Trip by the way! ) having said that our money was refunded in full and we had Christmas lunch at our hotel which was just the best ever.

Cochin should be your place of arrival along with departure unless you are travelling to Kanyakumari (In that case you can take flight for Trivandrum). Spend around 1-2 days in Cochin to look around (Cherai Beach and Athirapilli Waterfalls are must visit). However spend more time in Munnar, Alleppey and Thekkady where you will enjoy the real Kerala.

Esaa Airport Hotel is located very close to the Cochin International Airport. I had an amazing experience. Although it was a short stay, everything was very professional and satisfying. The room was neat and clean, and the bathroom was well-maintained. The complimentary breakfast was definitely worth it. staff was also very professional and helpful.
If you are looking for Home stay in Fort Cochin, then I would definitely recommend Terance Dale. Dax and his family are an amazing host and you would be delighted by their hospitality ! Rooms are absolutely clean and even better than most of the hotel rooms. Really appreciate the special care they have shown towards our little one !
Good location n free pick up from airport. Aircon works perfectly. Clean room. No toilet paper in room but you can ask for it. Delicious typical Indian breakfast chosen from a simple menu served in room. Convenient for those looking for short stay near airport.
Love everything about this hotel, I have been before and it is on my top hotel list for sure. In fact, I am returning this weekend as I am still in India. Amazing atmosphere, very clean, awesome location. The cottages by the lazy river are just the best
