I was disappointed by the amount of rubbish on the floors in the touristy parts of Whitby, discarded cigarette ends, empty fish+chip wrappings etc. This was predominantly on the west side. Crossing over to the east side the area was a lot tidier, and classier.

It makes for a good base - things to do locally, plus quite good rail & bus links to many varied destinations. Do be aware how hilly the town is ! Just the one good bookshop, but it is very well worth a visit.

The best, most picturesque English seaside town I've visited. So much to see and do. The ancient harbour and twin piers; lots of restaurants such as Magpie Cafe and the Humble Pie and Mash shop; lots of places to stay; Skinner Street with its boutique shops and lovely Botham's bakery; a ruined Abbey dominating the views; a brewery; gorgeous sunsets on the beach; sailing boats and boat trips; an old marketplace and the local museum set in a beautiful park (you need at least 2 or 3 hours for the museum); a steam railway. Also, Whitby is ideal for exploring the local area such as pretty Robin Hood Bay, Scarborough and the Yorkshire Moors.
Fantastic entertainment, great location with lovely views. We luckily parked directly outside & for free (out of season) the downstairs of this hotel is lovely and feels royal but its so dated and rundown. All the same it has charm. Great location at the top of the cliff looking down into the bay, will definitely visit Whitby again
A well located hotel / pub, with easy access to Whitby, the North Yorks Coast and North Yorks Moors. Good parking and good breakfast menu choice (included in our price). Warm and clean room. Spacious dining rooms and bar. Friendly staff.
