We had a fantastic stay at The Cross - the property itself is full of history and character plus it’s in a beautiful location in a cute village, only two minutes walk from a great pub, The George, and a stone’s throw from Wells.
Terry and the rest of the team could not do enough to make our stay wonderful - helpful, friendly, fun and informative. The room was well appointed, comfortable and scrupulously clean. The breakfast was incredible - super fresh, piping hot cooked options, fruit, cereals, etc

Location with the parking was very good for us! Having the back garden for our picnic dinner was a treat. Room was so pretty! Happy to have found twin bed room. Julie couldn't have been more helpful and accomodating. And the in-room breakfast was 5 star.....!!!!!!

I booked the George Inn at 7pm on a Sunday evening of a BH weekend after getting rained off from my camping. The place was still busy with the Sunday lunch crowd and clearly the host couple had been flat out busy all day. Nevertheless they were both absolutely charming and quickly showed me a lovely comfortable room and got me a meal and a pint followed by some excellent home made Victoria sponge. Before long I was co-opted onto one of the pub quizz teams and had a great evening in front of the toasty open fire with my new friends. Lovely people who run a great little Inn.

First of all the owner showed us warm hospitality. I really enjoyed the location. The area surroundings around our cute apartment, was beyond my expectations. The countryside was beautiful. I even took a walk and it was so close to the city center. Anyone planning a trip to Wells, consider this cozy studio apartment. Be warned that this place is a gem and probably will book up quickly as the tourist season approaches.

Unfortunately our visit was all too short, we really enjoyed attending a service at the Cathedral and meeting some loval people afterwards. A light lunch at The Loft (adjoining the Cathedral) and a short walk around were all we had time for. We shall definitely return!

Wells is a beautiful city with the centre retaining much of its historical character. The cathedral and Bishops Palace are worth visiting as is strolling around the streets and lanes of the town centre. A little further afield are Cheddar Gorge and Glastonbury and the north Somerset coast all making for a great day out.

Wells and the surrounding area was very pretty and had a reasonable amount of visitor parking. The Cathedral, Bishop's Palace and gardens are a must see for visitors. If not planning to come back within a year you can buy a combined ticket for the day and keep the costs done.
Up behind the cathedral is a museum and the best preserved medieval street that's just beautiful and interesting. They have just received some lotto funding to do preservation work and possibly open up a few houses for visitors to experience. This lovely news may also mean over the next 3 years at times work may be being carried out when visiting
Wells has a large range of Tearooms/coffee shops along with pubs and restaurants (but we didn't try any restaurants or pubs so no recommendations)
It's also worth the short trip to Glastonbury, with it's quirky high street shops and eateries, plus the Abbey and Tor if the outdoors and history is more your thing
The location— The Crown at Wells is right in the market square so a great location for tourists. The Cathedral was a short walk away and we were lucky enough to have the weekly market right outside the hotel. The room was large and nice to have a small sitting area with couch and chairs. The hotel is a heritage building so has a lot of character and of course has all the challenges associated with buildings of this age. Nice breakfast.
The Ancient Gatehouse is in a great location and we were blown away by the superb Italian restaurant which is part of the hotel and the ability to enjoy the food and wine while looking straight across the cathedral green to Wells Cathedral. It was magical. All the staff were really friendly and engaging.
Old coaching hotel dead centre of Wells (front door looks out over West Front of cathedral, through a gap in the Close buildings deliberately created to improve the view. Own parking (down a tricky entranceway), friendly and helpful staff. Super breakfast, comfortable rooms, good bathrooms,
This is a truly exceptional family run boutique hotel experience. Everything about Beryl is welcoming and unique. It was the perfect environment from which to explore Wells.
