Ullapool is a very attractive small town, with the ferry port to Lewis/Harris, sitting between two extremely attractive areas of highland wilderness scenery (Assynt to the North and Gairloch/Torridon to the South). You can't beat it for the scenery and opportunities for walking, fishing, canoeing, boat trips etc. Obviously the weather can be mixed. But I had no rain at all, one cloudy day, and the rest of the week was blue-sky, 20 degrees, hiking in shorts and T-shirt all week (still carrying good warm and waterproof gear, just in case). There are a few hotels and a large campsite, which these days is occupied almost entirely by campervans. This puts pressure on the availability of cooked food in the town. Food choices are limited to a couple of hotels and a couple of takeaway places. Some places which used to do food no longer do. It can be really hard to get into a restaurant without booking. It's not a party town, but there a couple of bars with live music on certain nights. Shopping is also extremely limited. There is a decent Tesco for basics, an outdoor clothing+kit shop, a hardware shop, a couple of touristy bookshops and a couple of woolen-mill/collectable shops.

I just love Ullapool and the surrounding area.

I just love Ullapool and the surrounding area. So much to see and do, and stunning scenery in all directions. Walking along the front and watching the harbour activity. Climbing the Ullapool Hill (about 1,200 feet) immediately to the north of the village. The golf course. The Geopark on the road to Kylesku, The Corrieshalloch Gorge, the Beinn Dearg group of mountains, An Teallach, one of Scotland's most beautiful mountains. The Sutherland Hills. Breakfast at the Caledonian Hotel, dinner at The Ceilidh Place. It's very easy to walk around Ullapool. There's nothing I would avoid

Cute seaside village... great pubs and restaurants... we ate at the Seaforth and had a wonderful meal. Also in the morning we had a perfect breakfast at the Bothy Cafe just a block from the ferry terminal. We just loved Ullapool.

We were only going to Stornoway for a day trip , bird watching there and back so we didn't do much in Ullapool. We did not book dinner in the hotel and were unable to eat there as a result. We went done the town and had the same problem and ended up getting a fish supper, so if you are planning eating in the town book ahead to avoid disappointment. The fish supper was very good by the way.

This was my fifth stay in this small hotel. They provide a great breakfast to start the day. The hotel is in a quiet location on the edge of town, perfect for an uninterrupted sleep. Excellent facilities in room and beautifully clean. The bed was so comfortable. Parking right by the entrance. I've stayed in several hotels in Ullapool and this is by far the best I've experienced.

We stayed here to take a break from managing our sick baby in a motorhome. We booked and arrived on the same day, and the check-in process was smooth. The staff were accommodating, setting up a cot bed for us, allowing us to relax and enjoy what Ullapool had to offer. The hotel itself was fairly standard, but the surrounding area was lovely.

Well appointed large rooms with comfortable beds in a good location (in Ullapool you're always close to everything by the way). Breakfast is good and the hotel bar was lively enough. Good parking options on site.
