The Royal Oak, hotel in Ticehurst

Located in Hawkhurst, 18 miles from Leeds Castle, The Royal Oak has accommodations with a garden, free private parking, a restaurant and a bar.

It is an old Inn located in a beautiful region. We made small excursions to Bodium Castle, Great Dixter House and Gardens, and smaller villages and their churches nearby. The Pub in the hotel was warm and inviting. Harry Cox and his staff went above and beyond for us. We enjoyed generous meals, fun entertainment, and cozy atmosphere!

The location of the Barn was ideal for us as we were visiting Sarah Raven’s Perch Hill Garden which is nearby. We also visited Bateman’s and Sissinghurst and re connected with old friends from university for some of our outings. A wonderful base for our little tour with free parking and a ten minute stroll to a lovely village pub which served excellent food. Will definitely return to explore more super gardens and historic houses and castles.

The village is very quaint, chocolate box pretty.

The village is very quaint, chocolate box pretty. There are very few shops in the village, but Tunbridge and Hastings are nearby. The hotel decor is amazing, very quirky and imaginative. The bed was enormous and extremely comfortable. The evening meal was delicious. The only downside was the English breakfast, failing that would thoroughly recommend.

Ticehurst is a lovely little place, full of charm.

Ticehurst is a lovely little place, full of charm. It has 2 really excellent country inns: The Bell and The Bull (not to be confused). Both serve great food, with The Bell adding a modern twist and The Bull going more traditional. Both are worth a visit, though I recommend pre-booking.

Breakfast was delicious with a good choice. We ere able to choice a cooked breakfast choice and then there were other bits we could help ourselves to. We stayed in the Annex area and our room was a fantastic size which included a lovely balcony and a view on the golf course. We didn't dinner at the hotel but we had drinks in the bar while watching the rugby and the staff were lovely and friendly.

An amazing, peaceful experience. The accommodation even had a lovely aroma. The setting is beautiful and despite feeling away from it all, it is easy to stroll into Ticehurst. The hosts were very welcoming and provided all that was needed for a badly needed cup of tea after a long journey.

The upstairs bedroom and kitchenette make this a great alternative to the usual hotel ‘family room’. We stayed an extra night.
