Stunning. Staff were friendly and helpful. Room was 1 of 5 rooms in a converted barn. A beautiful space, everything you could want and more. Super clean, spacious, comfortable, beautifully decorated and well laid out. Even a fridge is included. A great menu and the food was exceptional. In this cosy family run establishment. Located in a great area for getting out in the glorious Yorkshire countryside, and Thirsk, home of the James Herriot World. Can't recommend The Old Oak Tree enough if you want a great night's stay.
Located between the Yorkshire Moors and Yorkshire Dales National Parks, this hotel is listed as one of England's oldest coaching inns and overlooks the cobbled market place in Thirsk.

The main thing to know about Thirsk if you're coming by train is that Thirsk Station is in breach of the Trades Descriptions Act. It's a ridiculously long way outside the town. But the town itself is lovely (although the car traffic is pretty grim) and the local museum is an absolute gem.

It is a market town that is buzzing on a Sunday. Free parking, lots of cafes and pubs open. Some excellent independent shops including an excellent greengrocer and separate butcher with great Scotch eggs and pork pies. We didn't visit the James Herriott Experience, but it is very central.
Some cobbled areas, but generally quite accessible.

We were staying a couple of miles outside Thirsk for just an overnight stop. Visited the town as had arrived a bit early. Enjoyed a very good coffee in a cafe/bakery one side of the town square. Maybe next time we shall stay in the town itself, and enjoy a few days' visit.

Thirsk is a quaint Yorkshire town with a market square and plenty of eateries and shops. We enjoyed a meal in the local fish & chip restaurant in the market square. The food was tasty and the fish fresh.

Kirkgate was a lovely hotel a short walk from Thirsk town centre. It's located almost nextdoor to the James Herriot museum which I visited.
The owner really went out of his way to check each guest was okay. The bedroom was lovely with a super comfortable bed and large soft pillows.
Overall a wonderful hotel and I would highly recommend it.
Good food in the restaurant, and lots of choice for breakfast for hotel guests. Comfy bed, huge bathroom with tub, helpful and kind staff, very friendly. Great location in the centre of Thirsk, handy for everything. Nice decor.
Spotless property ideally located for both Ripon and Thirsk. Hosts were welcoming and everything you need is available. Would stay again next time I'm in the area.
great value hotel in good location if traveling north/south. pet friendly with dog walking area.
