The main thing to know about Thirsk if you're coming by train is that Thirsk Station is in breach of the Trades Descriptions Act. It's a ridiculously long way outside the town. But the town itself is lovely (although the car traffic is pretty grim) and the local museum is an absolute gem.

It is a market town that is buzzing on a Sunday. Free parking, lots of cafes and pubs open. Some excellent independent shops including an excellent greengrocer and separate butcher with great Scotch eggs and pork pies. We didn't visit the James Herriott Experience, but it is very central.
Some cobbled areas, but generally quite accessible.

We were staying a couple of miles outside Thirsk for just an overnight stop. Visited the town as had arrived a bit early. Enjoyed a very good coffee in a cafe/bakery one side of the town square. Maybe next time we shall stay in the town itself, and enjoy a few days' visit.

Thirsk is a quaint Yorkshire town with a market square and plenty of eateries and shops. We enjoyed a meal in the local fish & chip restaurant in the market square. The food was tasty and the fish fresh.

Great town plenty of places to eat and drink great walking distance to racecourse from centre if stopping in a hotel parking for over night stay is a bit of pain wish there was facilities in town for that as it’s quiet a big car park but your restricted to a few hours through day

Location was brilliant to just stroll into Thirsk or the very good crown and anchor pub, the also good Fish n chip shop, but mostly the reason we were there was it was 15 minute walk to the brilliant Thirsk racecourse.
The chalet was comfortable and clean. There were ample facilities for self-catering and the location was in close proximity to the facilities of Thirsk, York and the wider Yorkshire region.
Breakfast was good, staff excellent. The room was nice and quiet. The hotel is in an excellent position in the centre of Thirsk.
All the staff in the hotel were superb.
The B&B is straightforward "Old School" B&B. It is good, clean, comfortable. Room, Bed and Breakfast. Good proximity to centre of Thirsk and the Market Square.
The location was excellent 5 mins into town centre of Thirsk and really nice pub across the road from the cottage.
Parking right outside cottage was a bonus
