Belvedere Guest House, hotel in Stonehaven

Situated in Stonehaven, 500 metres from Carron Beach, Belvedere Guest House features accommodation with free WiFi and free private parking.

We have a very great stay in belvedere Guest House the owners are very kind, welcoming and very helpful. Breakfast is excellent. There are even vegetarian and vegan breakfasts. We had the Scottish breakfast, so delicious. The Belvedere is located in the city center, Dunnotar Castle is accessible on foot from Stonehaven harbour. We travel by train and the hotel is 10 minutes downhill! To leave the owner called us a taxi (2 min by taxi to get to the station) so we avoided the hill with the suitcases :)

Nice town, not to large with enough locations for a drink or a bite. The beach near the city center is a little dull with only one cafe/bar, "the waterfront". A little to the north there are more cafe's, like Molly's. when walking the coastline to the south there is also enough to see. First some metal miniatures. A little further the harbor where you can also find bar's and restaurants. And from there on you can walk further south to the War memorial monument and finally to Dunnotar Castle.

The harbour area is lovely to wander and pause for a coffee. The beach has an extended walk way, but it's mostly a pebble beach. There's an open air swimming pool for warmer months, and several places to eat including excellent fish and chips! The area around the market square has a lovely range of small independent shops to explore.

Stonehaven is a beautiful seaside town located just twenty minutes by train south of Aberdeen. I can highly recommend visiting the old town siuated around the harbour and old pier which by far are the most attractive parts. Also highly worth visiting is Dunnotter Castle which is just thirty minutes walk south of the town. On the way to the castle you pass a war memorial atop of a hill which is also worth a visit. I also visited Dunnotter Church. Unfortunately the chutch itself was locked, however the graveyard was very peaceful and picturesque. And as a bonus Stonehaven claims to be the birthplace of the battered Mars Bar, which you can sample if you so wish...

We visited Stonehaven to experience the Fire Ball event at Hogmanay. This is the second time we have been and it most definitely did not disappoint. It was fabulous. It is quite a small town and over New Year a lot of restaurants and pubs were shut but this is to be expected. We really liked the Ship Inn at the harbour and the Market Inn on the Market Square. There were a couple of nice gift shops and easy access to the beach. There is a bus running between Stonehaven and Aberdeen which we would have taken had we more time. There is also a castle close by (you would need a car). The locals are really friendly and make you very welcome. Overall I would recommend Stonehaven and look forward to returning in the better weather to experience more of what is on offer.

The beach looked great but it wasn't too warm.

The beach looked great but it wasn't too warm. The castle is a bit of an uphill struggle, however there is a bus. Unfortunately if you suffer from vertigo it probably won't be for you. We've been told that it is great for watching dolphins and seeing the Northern lights unfortunately we didn't see either but it is a great place to go. We'll certainly be back.

The couple running the hotel were so lovely and accommodating. The room was very cozy and had all the amenities. They also provide some vegan options for breakfast which was really nice with soy milk as an alternative as well. The area was really quiet and we were able to have a peaceful night. The hotel/home looks like a mini castle which was wonderful too.

Well decorated hotel, nice bar area and Ryan made our check in seamless. Food we had at bar that night was fresh and very tasty. All staff friendly and welcoming and special mention again to Ryan who made that extra effort to ensure guests had everything they required.
