Muthu Westcliff Hotel (Near London Southend Airport), hotel in Southend-on-Sea

Dating back to 1891, this magnificent Victorian hotel is close to the seafront with spectacular views over the Thames Estuary.

The hotel is beautifully located, taking in beautiful panoramic views of The Thames Estuary. This hotel is ideally situated near the shops and fairground attractions. We were warmly welcomed upon arrival, and early check-in was facilitated. The lift is not for anyone with claustrophobia. Two people, in my opinion, are the maximum capacity. A sign needs to be placed on the door to alert the user to pull open the door before entry to the lift. Floor three could do with a new, fresh look. New carpet, fresh pain would update the hallway. We had a corner room, which was appreciated. It captured the lovely Thames Estuary. However, the room and shower room really need updating. Our shower head was not suspended, leading to showering while trying to hold the shower hose. The room was clean and warm, but the double bed was really a large single bed. Breakfast was ok. Cereal in boxes, no croissants, lovely danish pastry, poor selection of fresh fruit, and yoghurt. My husband reported that his fry was nice. Oh, I nearly forgot to mention. We parked right outside the hotel and followed the hotel instructions regarding using some apps for paid parking. We used the Mobon app. We duly paid and headed off to the shops. Luckily, another member of my group was near the car and noticed the traffic warden about to write up a ticket. I sent my friend the mobon receipt with my parking details. The traffic warden said the council was having issues with that app, and my car had not registered on their system that parking was paid. He asked that we highlight this Mobon issue with the hotel. We recommend using one of the other apps that are recommended by the hotel. Overall, we had a very nice pleasant stay at the Westcliff Hotel.

Parking on street around the hotel was ideal and reasonably priced. We attended the new year eve fireworks which were great and look forward to seeing if they will be held again next New Year’s Eve. I think the local authorities are doing the right thing with enticing people to visit as along with hotel cost, bar tab and breakfast along with parking a meal in town and visit to a couple of bars we contributed a good few quid into the local coffers.

Never visited such a dump hole in my life.

Never visited such a dump hole in my life. Absolutely filthy place, not much to like at all. First time visiting and can 100 per cent say never will we visit again. There are so many other places in the UK to go to that are much nicer and cared for.

Free fireworks on Saturday nights during the autumn weeks are brilliant. Other seaside towns should take note. Brought in families for the evening. Found a quite part of Southend and was amazed by the stunning Edwardian/ Victorian architecture. Rossi ice cream is a must 😋

Visiting the world famous pier though a bit blowy even recreated the Minder scene with Arthur Daley tapping his pocket as as he realises he has left his wallet at the end of the pier and starts the 1.333 mile walk back

The hotel was away from the very noisy part of the water front but still very busy. We were there for a friend's celebration event and it was very convenient for that. The weather was good and morning walks in the beach or on the sidewalk were available, We are elderly s.o did not make use of the beach but others will

Excellent Attraction with a Pier Railway.

Excellent Attraction with a Pier Railway. You can take a train to the sea up to 1.3 miles. What an extraordinary train ride. Once at the sea, you can roam, visit restaurants, take pictures or relax by the sea. There are plenty of seating and spots. The Pier Adventures villages have a lot of rides and activities to keep you engaged. It has a long beach where you can relax in the sunshine. Many casinos and entertainment options are on the other side of the road.

A clean, comfortable, well-run hotel in an old building dating back to the dawn of Southend as a seaside resort in the 1790s with a view over the estuary and the pier. Our hostesses were friendly & helpful and you will get a decent breakfast. Comfy beds, too. It's about a 6-min walk to Southend Central station and 12 to Southend Victoria. And if you are at all interested in Anglo-Saxon history, you might want to visit the town museum to see the Prittlewell Prince burial finds.

As always, my stay at the Last Post was comfortable and affordable. Better facilities than many higher-priced hotels, easy check-in and great customer care. Perfect location for Central Southend. Very comfortable bed and a good shower although I would have preferred a hand-held shower to go with the rainfall head. Literally 2 minutes from Central Station or to the shops. Didn't eat downstairs but expect it to be good.

The location, the staff, the cleanliness. I've stayed in a few Holiday Inn hotels across the country, and this is by far my best!! Breakfast was great, with a lovely view of airplanes, which the kids found fascinating. Nothing was too much trouble for the staff. If ever we come back to Southend on sea, we will definitely be staying there again. Thank you all x

Have stayed at this hotel several times before since it opened. The staff are helpful. The breakfast superb. Evening meal was good. Great location as it is near the high street, a short walk from Southend Central Station and although overlooking the seafront and Adventureland, it is a quiet location. It is short walk from Cliffs Pavilion.
