It oozed atmosphere and was warm, cosy and popular. The staff were always attentive and made you feel welcome and valued. The food was very very good-breakfasts were enormous and the chicken pie evening meal from the menu was exceptional !

Although I knew of rye the town came as pleasant surprise because of its age and history. From the old town the sites were readily in reach by walking as were numerous restaurants where we ate.
Rye harbour and Nature Reserve provided an interesting area for walking & bird observation.

Rye is a wonderful place to visit from the cobbled streets and historical buildings to the varied restaurants and bars (the Grapevine was a particular favourite). High quality of independent shops with not a fast food restaurant in site! Would highly recommend a long weekend in Rye. We also visited Dungeness about 30 minutes drive away at sunset and took so many photos of this eerie yet amazing place.

Rye has an interesting history and the museum, tower and Lamb house are worth visiting to understand it. Just walking around is a pleasure, a variety of food, shopping, antiques centre and pub choices. Fantastic sit-in fish and chips on Mint Street. It is central to many other areas of interest so an excellent base for the beaches. marshes, harbour, Tenterden, wineries etc.

Charming look on the outside! Great street for photos.
Charming look on the outside! Great street for photos. Could walk ANYWHERE in less than 8 minutes. Most places we walk to were less than 5 minutes. I mean it when I say that everywhere-the church, the castle, the restaurants-all just great to walk to. Enabled our family to go off and do our own things yet still get back to the house easily. The interior is "vintage" with wobbly stairs-just as represented, and carpet that wasn't shiny/new-but it was very clean. But that goes with the charm of the house! House very spacious, our group was able to stretch out on big sofas and in our large rooms. Perfect for families as there were so many bedrooms/beds. Kitchen was huge with all the amenities. House felt like I had imagined as "Old England" which is what we wanted. Not shiny or new in the living areas-stairs, etc. But bathrooms were COMPLETELY shiny and new and clean and beautiful. Come here if you're looking for location and comfort and charm and history and space to stretch out. If you are looking for shiny new and all modern-that's not what this space is. But for us it was the charm and the character and the history and LOCATION.
Very delicious breakfast served in such a relaxing atmosphere by staff that make you feel very relaxed and welcome. The gallivant isn’t a normal hotel it’s far from it. I’ve never felt so welcome and so relaxed which is all down to the incredibly welcoming and friendly staff which make you feel like you are at a very special place. This is the best hotel I’ve ever stayed at. Thank you to all the staff at the gallivant
A lovely stay in a nice hotel. Staff were all very welcoming and helpful. Breakfast is a continental buffet for the winter, but a cooked option at another hotel was offered so they're doing their best to cater for everyone's needs.
The hotel has it's own car park, which is a real bonus in Rye.
Good value for two spacious rooms for our family of 5 including one larger family room. The hotel is well located with an easy less than 10 minute walk to the historical centre of Rye. Staff are friendly and professional.
This is a lovely little hotel and I always stay here when in Rye. Its pretty central with decent sized rooms, has good WiFi and does an excellent breakfast.
