Exceptional rooms. Far better than anything I would have expected. The breakfast was amazing - felt like dining at the ritz! Steak and eggs - can you believe it! Coffee amazing. Lavazza coffee machines in every room with delicious biscotti. Couldn’t have asked for better. We came on bikes and they provided a safe place to store overnight. Perfect!

Ripon is a great centre for a holiday with a beautiful cathedral. We walked the Prior Richard Way from York to Fountains Abbey using local buses each day. Well placed for York, Knaresborough, Harrogate and Fountains Abbey.

Lots of small shops and cafe/restaurants to explore. Lovely vibe to the city. Parking cheap and plentiful. Not been since trained to be a teacher there 30 years ago so it’s changed a bit but still kept its charm. We had a few drinks by the river, took in the sites and ate lovely food.
Stayed at The Unicorn in the market place, ate at Prima Italia and couple of coffee shops out towards the edge of town (Thirsk side) apologies for not knowing their names.

The memorial park was worth a .
Witnessing the blowing of the horn at 9pm was also worth the description given by the lady on the Sunday night. Very good explanation of the nightly event.

Ripon has such a lovely community and the people are so friendly and welcoming. The Cathedral is a good visit as is walking around the town and to the canal. Plenty independent shops and restaurants. We travelled easily from Ripon to places like Knaresborough and Harrogate and a good day at Fountains Abbey.

Would definitely go back - you're only about 30 minutes from Harrogate, another jewel

Quite a lit of ordinary eateries but we liked Manchega.
If you like real ale go to the One Eyed Rat but it doesn't serve meals.
A number of shops and businesses have closed down and it's much like many towns these days.
It's a fantastic base for visiting Newby Hall, Fountains Abbey, RHS Harlow Carr and Thorp Perrow arboretum.
Staff very pleasant and helpful. The hotel was clean and in excellent condition. The 'Green' initiative to reward customers for foregoing daily room cleaning by offering a complimentary drinks voucher was admirable and enterprising.
Location was perfect for our reason for visiting Ripon. The welcome from David and Steph was friendly and professional, the building old but tastefully decorated, the breakfast was excellent.
In part of a farmhouse. Quiet and very well presented. 2 minutes walk from a pub with food, except on Wednesday when it's closed. Everything was just right. Easy free parking. Near Ripon. B<
