Dating back to the 17th century, The Old Deanery - Restaurant With Rooms Hotel was built on the site of the monastery of St Wilfred.

Stunning old property full of character directly facing the cathedral.
I loved the location and the huge lit fireplace super quaint and cosy - Molton brown toiletries were a hit and such warm and friendly staff.
Breakfast was hands down the best I’ve ever had and I would say I’m well travelled I just loved the concept and quirky ness!

Beautiful rooms decorated with class and taste. So comfortable too. The television in the shower room was a nice touch. The choice of blue or white lights went down well with our granddaughter. Robes and slippers provided too.

One of the nicest hotels I’ve ever stayed in! The cleanest room and bathroom I’ve ever seen. Lovely big comfortable bed, great choice of tea and coffee and biscuits. Hotel was decorated very stylishly and also Christmas decor was beautiful. Very dog friendly with water bowls and jars of dog treats on the bar and main entrance.
We ate an evening meal in the bar area and it was well worth the money, very tasty and nicely presented. Breakfast was great with a good choice and all piping hot.
Will return again in the warmer months

The hotel was ok.
The food was not suitable for vegetarians , it was okay if you could eat meat . I could not the breakfast as there was nothing for vegetarians , the breakfast staff didn't say good morning as there was no breakfast staff there . the people who were there just looking busy doing nothing !!!!!
The restaurant was like eating in a public house .
We could not get full fat milk , it seems in all hotels it is semi skimmed milk , I am allergic to semi skimmed & skimmed milk . No one would go & get me some .
The room 27 was next to the stairs , there was no fridge in the room , good job I brought my own mini fridge .
I would not recommend it to anyone , from the outside it looks beautiful .
The welcome was not very good , Staff need to be trained more .
I have worked in hotels for 40 years , I have standards .
But unfortunately the hotel did not come to my standard I give the hotel 2out of 10

The cathedral is amazing and there are other things to see in the hotel which is delightful. I would like to have had the opportunity to visit Fountains Abbey and Studley Royal which are nearby. I eat in the Ripon Inn where I was staying but there seem to be lots of eateries in the town.

Ripon is a great centre for a holiday with a beautiful cathedral. We walked the Prior Richard Way from York to Fountains Abbey using local buses each day. Well placed for York, Knaresborough, Harrogate and Fountains Abbey.

Lots of small shops and cafe/restaurants to explore. Lovely vibe to the city. Parking cheap and plentiful. Not been since trained to be a teacher there 30 years ago so it’s changed a bit but still kept its charm. We had a few drinks by the river, took in the sites and ate lovely food.
Stayed at The Unicorn in the market place, ate at Prima Italia and couple of coffee shops out towards the edge of town (Thirsk side) apologies for not knowing their names.

The Cathedral was magnificent place. Our choir from Nottinghamshire took part in 3 services.
The memorial park was worth a .
Witnessing the blowing of the horn at 9pm was also worth the description given by the lady on the Sunday night. Very good explanation of the nightly event.

Fabulous place to stay in Ripon. Close to the town centre and within walking distance of the Cathedral. Lovely room very clean the decore was fresh and it included everything you would need. The staff in Valentinos we lovely extremely helpful and very friendly. Very good breakfast. Defiantly recommend.
Location good, Hotel Great and quite a lot of parking. A Good family gathering space in bars and restaurant area and rooms appear to be all new and in good condition. Our Room was excellent - towards the back end of the garden on the 2nd floor. Quiet and cool. Bathroom good and bed comfy.
The hotel is right by the square so ideal for seeing Ripon. The rooms are clean with everything you need, we asked for a low floor room and this was accommodated. We have stayed here several times and everytime it's been an excellent stay.
