The Abbotsford, hotel in Port of Menteith

The Abbotsford is a spacious Victorian property, refurbished in a contemporary style. It was featured as one of the top 10 bed and breakfasts in GB by Yours magazine.

The hotel is a three stars. The accommodation was well and the staff was friendly. We arrived late, after the last check-in time, because the traffic was blocked, and the host waited for us, after we sent him a message. We could even drink a beer and a whisky after check-in. Also we booked an extra room with a priority price. The breakfast was ok, very big portion and very hard food (scotish menu), but they oferred us a light menu, both good. In front of the hotel is a free parking lot.

Acorn House Callander, hotel in Port of Menteith

Acorn House Callander is set in Callander, 14 km from Lake of Menteith, 33 km from Loch Katrine, and 47 km from Mugdock Country Park.

Very very clean and well furnished property with premium bed linen. The room has tea making facilities and a mini fridge with dairy and an alternative milk. The teas and coffees are organic and there’s lots of it unlike most places. The tea cups are nice and large. I like tea, you see. Overall the pictures do not do this property justice and we will certainly be coming back.

We loved stayed in this cottage for 4 nights, the weather was beautiful so we were able to sit out on our balcony for breakfast, taking in the stunning views. Extremely dog friendly setting and the owners were very helpful. Well equipped cottage had everthing we needed for our stay. And my husband says to let you know that if you ever need Bernie (the resident retreiver) rehomed then we would very happily oblige!

Hills and forest in easy reach of the property, along with Flanders Moss and Doune Castle close by for a range of activities. Great walking and cycling, and a great meal at The Inn at Kippen on our last night. Superb.

The Port of Menteith and the Loch of Menteith is a beautiful...

The Port of Menteith and the Loch of Menteith is a beautiful and very tranquil and scenic setting. It is much less busier than the more touristy lochs such as Loch Lomond, in the surrounding areas. One can spend a quiet, relaxing day close to wildlife either swimming or fishing in the loch without being disturbed. The Port of Menteith is also an ideal location for outdoor family activities with wildlife and nature attractions such as the Loch Lomond and the Trossachs National Park, the Blair Drummond Safari park, the Loch Lomond Faerie Trail, the Braklin Falls and the Flanders Moss Nature Reserve, to name a few, just a stone's throw away. We stayed at the Lochend Chalets in Port Menteith for a week in August and had a memorable stay there. The self-catering cottages are ideal since it could get a bit too pricy eating outside, especially when you have a family. We recommend this place for families with young children who can enjoy the play area, swimming in the loch and feeding the ducks there.

The chalet was really comfortable and very well equipped. The location was stunning . Very relaxing , waking up to wonderful sunrises and ducks at the door was perfect! Would definitely recommend and hope to return soon. It was so tranquil but very near some great places to visit , Callender , Aberfoyle and Blair Drummond safari park are all very near. The location is beautiful and the house is cozy. The view to the lake is amazing and it's only a drive away from the lake, some really nice restaurants and Stirling. It was a nice welcome and when we asked for more wood for the fireplace they were quick on helping. Also, a nice welcome pack with some essentials and a letter with some guidance on things to do nearby :)
