Supremely comfy bed in a immaculately clean room. Bharat was super accommodating even though we'd arrived unexpectedly early and showed us around the house- beautiful and clean place with some lovely communal spaces such as a balcony to sit outside on and a cosy looking lounge. These places and our room also afforded excellent views of the hills around Monmouth, I don't think I could get tired of the view if I'd stayed a week! For those coming from Offa's Dyke walk, it's just a jaunt up the hill from town and doesn't take long to walk there. Breakfast was large and excellent and accommodated us vegetarians.

Breakfast was self-catering which was ideal for me since I don't like fitting with hotel timetables and don't always want a huge cooked meal. Bread, butter, milk and coffee were provided in the annex, along with excellent jams. Refills were no problem for the hosts. The room was very quiet.

We were looking for somewhere to stop over for two nights and how could we resist somewhere named the Bees Knees? The location just outside Monmouth was perfect for our needs and gave us the opportunity to explore the forest nearby. This extension on the side of the main house/converted barn was cosy and clean, with everything we needed. Comfortable bed with loads of pillows to choose from, good size shower and decent wifi. The lighting efffects were fun to play with and we did actually use them for softer lighting in the morning. We were treated to cake, tea and coffee and there was milk waiting in the fridge. The weather was still good for the time of year so we were able to sit out in the fenced-off garden area and enjoy the view. We didn't use the full kitchen, but we could have easily cooked for ourelves if we'd been staying longer. Our hosts made it easy to get the keys and when the electricity briefly failed were really responsive. We very much enjoyed our stay and would highly recommend to anyone looking to be in the area for a few days.

We arrived too late for a shopping trip through the town but it looked interesting enough to make another trip during the day. We had an inside meal in the Chippy by the gateway into the town and it was very good. I think that it would be an interesting town to explore and there is the river to check out as well. It looks like you can even park in the town which must be a rare bonus. We would have liked to see some of the historic sites but sadly we were basically only staying overnight.

Monmouth is a lovely town with lots of shops, market, places to eat and theatres. We stayed to go to the theatre and had an excellent evening show with Alfie Moore. There are excellent butcher shops and M&as food . There are lovely riverside walks and further afield the Forest of Dean to explore.

Monmouth itself is very pretty and quite touristy. We didn't spend too much time there but explored the countryside and villages around. We went to Symonds Yat, Tintern Abbey, Chepstow and a couple of castles. What a beautiful area. This area is also quite food-y. In fact the small restaurant we used on our first evening had a Michelin star - how lucky was that?

There isn't much to do here, but the point of our trip is always the same, so we do get a lot of enjoyment out of it.
People are so friendly and helpful. The only place I know where around 80% of the population say good morning, and acknowledge you.
Two definite recommendations - if going in August head to Harts (fantastically discounted bras and swimwear for the ladies), and don't leave without going to Coffee Lab. Superb!

Monmouth is a lovely small town, with an excellent array of shops, including many small specialised enterprises, some interesting historic buildings, beautiful countryside around and also very friendly people. There is plenty to do and see in the town and it is a great centre for visiting cities such as Cardiff, Hereford, Cheltenham and Bristol. Not far from Monmouth is Symonds Yat, on the border between England and Wales, and some fantastic border castles such as Goodrich, Skenfrith and the White Castle. Road links too are very good.
Stuart, our host, was very welcoming. The breakfast was delicious and the room was very comfortable, quiet and clean. The hotel is just a short walk from the town centre and there is a supermarket close by. It is easy to get to, parking was onsite and although situated next to a main road, the rooms are so well insulated we could hear no traffic noise at all! We thoroughly enjoyed our stay and would definitely recommend it as a base to Monmouth and the Wye Valley.
Nice hotel smack in the middle of Monmouth. Our room was clean, airy, surprisingly quiet given the location and good sized.
The staff were very helpful and the breakfast was real value for money.
Rooms lovely +clean! Fab location.
Lovely shower has most hotels iv stayed in the showers have been awfull.
The only downside was the mattress dipped a lot in the middle so didn't have much space.
