Macclesfield has a real personality, history and character.

Macclesfield has a real personality, history and character. One Sunday a month they have the Treacle Market, but it was cancelled due to Storm Bert. The silk museum was also closed, which was disappointing, so it could be worth another trip. We were only there overnight but felt a really pleasant vibe. It's set in a hilly landscape, and you are constantly reminded of this when looking around as you walk round town. Stunning.

We lived in Macclesfield over 18 years ago, and got married there, so this was a nostalgic trip. The town has become quite trendy in the intervening years with plenty of bars and restaurants to choose from. Good to see some of the old stalwarts such as the Waters Green Tavern are still there and refusing to become even the slightest bit trendy!

A good base to visit Peak District.

A good base to visit Peak District. Shopping centre in decline. Local bus services in decline but possible to reach Hayfield and Buxton. Plus very good train service to Manchester, London, Birmingham etc. Some good eateries - especially excellent Plums Kitchen.

I like Macclesfield because it is a pretty town with good links to Manchester if you need the big city, the Peak District if you like walking, and Buxton if you want a bit of culture. The town is of a manageable size with pretty parks, and it has various small events going on in the local pubs, plus each month there is the Treacle Market, which is a popular feature of Macclesfield.

I came for the silk museum and the Paradise Mill which I can recommend both. The Treacle Market on the last Sunday of the month was a good experience. The weather was sunny, but often was a chill strong wind, I missed a hat. It takes only 30 minutes to travel by train to Manchester, and about 2 hours to London. There are good restaurants and pubs! There are many places to take a nice walk in the nature of the surrounding area, but unfortunately I had to postpone them.

A nice small town centre, a good choice of eateries & cafes, A couple of good ladies boutiques along with a lovely shop Rocco selling stylish boots & trainers. The Tytherington hotel is well worth a stay as they have a good Spa & pool. Another small hotel nearby is BoHotel & eatery, lovely. Free car parking available for the town centre too.

The Tytherington is a very nice hotel. From the first minute we walked in the feel was a a comfortable, clean well run hotel. The reception staff were friendly and helpful. Our room was well appointed and clean. We at lunch in the lounge where there was a good choice of food, and a lovely conservatory overlooking the golf course. If you want a base in the Macclesfield area I would definitely recommend the Tytherington.

A convenient location for South Manchester, Stockport or Macclesfield. The property is situated in the country with a great view north towards Manchester. I found the property straight away. Access was easy, helped by the owner. I liked the common living area and bedroom area on the upstairs floor. It was very relaxing for the two of us.

Had our holiday booking cancelled a couple of hours before we arrived, so Hollins House was a last minute alternative. Manager was so kind and upgraded us to a big, comfortable room for our 5 day stay. The hotel is a work in progress in some areas, but the staff were wonderful and we were really well looked after. Lovely, happy atmosphere.

Great hotel, unique style and would expect to pay a lot more if it was in a different location. (Nothing wrong with Macclesfield but not exactly posh)
