The elegant spa town of Harrogate has some of England’s finest Victorian architecture. Lush greenery and colourful flowers also add to the stately atmosphere.
The main attraction is the Turkish Baths and Health Spa, in a 19th-century building which maintains its original Moorish interior design. Nearby is the Royal Pump Room Museum, set over Europe’s strongest sulphur well and detailing the town’s history.
One ongoing Harrogate institution is Bettys Tea Rooms which serves fabulous afternoon tea. Surrounded by the unique shops of the Montpellier Quarter, it overlooks gardens which continue south to meet The Stray – over 200 acres of parkland whose vibrant spring blossom is quite a sight.
