Gairloch Sands Youth Hostel, hotel in Gairloch

A lochside lodge, sitting on the northern shore of Loch Gairloch, with sea and mountain views and easy access to sandy beaches.

Host was very welcoming - even when I was confused about the ID situation. You need to show ID when arriving. Not entirely sure why? Room was good, parking was good. We had 4 cars with us, so plenty of room. Kitchen facilities was great. Perfect for a hostile.

Gairloch is lovely; we stayed two days and enjoyed our travels out and about in the area but would not return to this hotel again. Hated having to come back to it for the second night, whereas we should have been looking forward to it. We had to experience another night in a double bed that was two single beds put together (badly).... and that had two SINGLE quilts on top ????? - and then to wake up in the morning to a second breakfast - a repeat of the awful shambles the day before. So - Gairloch is a lovely place but this hotel is NOT recommended. Way overpriced and under delivers in all areas.

Great place with spectacular, inspiring scenery, a nice little town with good facilities, nice cafe and farm shop as well as an excellent museum. The only downside when we visited was the local chippy only opened on Thursday, Friday and Saturday!😊

Gairloch is an easily accessed centre from which to explore the western Highlands; it also has some very acceptable sandy beaches. There are plenty of hotels and B&Bs in Gairloch, but many are closed in winter.

The beach and camp site along the road was absolutely lovely, we paid £4 to park at the camp sight and took a lovely walk around the sight and the beach, definitely worth a look plenty for children to go there

Glass bottomed boat trip to see the seals highly recommended. Knowledgeable skipper who allowed some of the children to drive the boat and earn a certificate. Gairloch Museum, in a former nuclear bunker, is really well laid out and interesting for adults and children. The café is great too, with a view from its terrace. Don't miss Inverewe Garden, and allow several hours to walk around this surprising collection of trees & plants which really shouldn't be able to thrive here! Great views too.

Location and views amazing, on the flat to appreciate sea front, all staff genuinely friendly, very large room, massive bed (biggest on the whole NC500), good food with a mix of alternatives to fish, Hugh portions. Good breakfast. Not a boutique style decorated hotel but finished to a high standard compared to other hotels stayed in on this trip. Would like to return for a summer beach holiday.

Very good buffet style breakfast. There was a good choice of cereals and fresh fruit. The cooked items were cooked well. This isn’t always the case in a buffet style breakfast. We also has an evening meal there the night before. There was a good choice and it was reasonably priced. The hotel has a great position overlooking the water in Gairloch and we had an excellent view from our room.

Amazing location! We stopped here whilst travelling the NC500 on our honeymoon. Unfortunately, it was a flying visit, and we want to come back to explore the area. Our room had amazing views of the bay and we saw seals. The evening meal and breakfast were lovely. We also stayed at their sister hotel Forss House which was also lovely, they had amazing food!
