Perfect little cottage for a short break away with the family, well equipped kitchen made meal times easy with a young child. Location was perfect for what we needed and Cathy was an excellent host, met us on arrival and recommended local businesses she thought would be beneficial. Would highly recommend

Well equipped kitchen with Fridge and freezer available so get some shopping on the way. Lovely big range with gas hob and all equipment. Large dining table ideal for big family breakfasts before heading off to explore the area. Helpful hosts nearby if needed. We loved the spacious layout of the cottage and stylish furnished rooms . Ideal for big family gatherings. We were 8 people and 2 of us slept on the sofa bed which was very comfortable. Would highly recommend.

The bed was comfortable, the heating in the room could be controlled to our liking, the shower was lovely and the tea and coffee making facilities had a lot of choice with the addition of biscuits! Breakfast was also lovely both mornings and the staff were friendly.

We had a 4 night stay there to compete in an archery competition for 2 days, and see a bit of the area for the other two. Great location for seeing Durham, the local small towns/villages, and getting out to the Dales. Even the coast towns not very far away. We ate every meal in The Fir Tree, and had something different every meal, all excellent qualitty. Breakfasts were superb. Easy free carparking, right outside our room, but an open "pub" carpark, so not "secure" but in a very quiet area, so felt safe. Lovely staff who really worked hard, were friendly and proactive in sorting out any problems, including two days grab and go breakfasts when our competition meant the start was too early for an 8am wekend breakfast. Cannot recommend this place highly enough

It was nice that there were plenty of car parks.

It was nice that there were plenty of car parks. The staff were very helpful and friendly. The room was small and basic but clean and comfortable. However the walls are very thin and you can hear people in their bathrooms in their bedrooms which isn’t pleasant!
