The Fig Tree Markinch, Glenrothes, hotel in Falkland

Situated in Markinch and with St Andrews University reachable within 32 km, The Fig Tree Markinch, Glenrothes features a terrace, non-smoking rooms, free WiFi throughout the property and a bar.

I recently stayed at this hotel and was left thoroughly disappointed. First of all, the advertising is completely misleading. They boast about luxurious amenities, but in reality, the shower facilities are subpar at best. The water pressure was terrible, and the temperature fluctuated constantly, making it nearly impossible to enjoy a decent shower. The management is another issue—they're dishonest and seem completely unbothered by the state of their hotel. I brought up several concerns, and while they agreed to refund me due to the poor experience, I'm still waiting for that refund weeks later with no resolution in sight. The noise levels are unbearable. Every night, there was loud music and shouting until the early hours of the morning, making it impossible to get any sleep. It felt more like a nightclub than a hotel. The cleanliness of the hotel is appalling. The floors were filthy, and worst of all, they didn’t even bother to change the bed sheets! It was obvious that the room hadn’t been properly cleaned before my stay. All in all, this place is a disaster. Avoid it if you value cleanliness, honesty, and a good night's rest. And don’t trust their refund promises—I'm still waiting for mine!

The Upper Largo Hotel & Restaurant, hotel in Falkland

Around 11 miles south of St Andrews, The Upper Largo Hotel & Restaurant provides well-appointed rooms with free on-site parking and Wi-Fi.

plenty parking places. The hotel is conveniently situated for visiting the East Neuk, St Andrews and other places of interest in the area. We had a good breakfast. The hotel restaurant served food all day which was very convenient after returning to the hotel in the evening especially because there are no restaurants serving food in the evening in the vicinity. The hotel bar stays open till late.

It's a tiny place and was of interest to us because of the "Outlander" connection. To be honest, apart from the castle, there's not much to Falkland. Many businesses including restaurants have closed down. It all looked like a town in decline

An absolute must see for Outlander fans.

An absolute must see for Outlander fans. Such a wonderful little village with an olde worlde vibe. Worth a visit on its own merits, without the Outlander connection. Great walks in the hills above. Falkland Palace & gardens are a must see too.

Lovely guest house in a beautiful location, Staff seemed friendly enough, we stayed in the outlander room it was very small but clean and tidy, the bed was awful extremely uncomfortable so both my partner and I didn’t get much sleep at all 😕 maybe a little overpriced I thought for the size of the room we paid £100 which did include breakfast that was very nice and the chef was lovely very friendly.

    What a lovely old village!

What a lovely old village! It is small but full of very old buildings, including the Stuart's country palace. It is interesting to walk around. We stayed at the Bruce Inn in a building dated 1607.

This is a beautiful conservation village with attractive, traditional cottages set in 'wynds'. It has a number of cafes/tea rooms and craft shops. It has a peaceful atmosphere with the main attraction being the historical Falkland Palace and Gardens. A real pleasure is walking through the nearby Falkland estate with numerous paths. Two recommendations would be the Pillars of Hercules for lunch (combined with walk through Falkland estate) and brunch at Campbell's Coffee House and Eatery.

The house was set in beautiful gardens which we were allowed to freely roam. Our Host was so friendly and nothing was too much bother. He made us feel very welcome which added to the lovely relaxing time we had. The location was ideal as it was set right in the cenre of Falkland.
