People were so friendly and helpful.
People were so friendly and helpful. The Abbey was such a special place. We never allowed enough time to get round . Again the staff shared knowledge on history and directed us to local museum when we were out of time. Staff in museum were also spot on. Went to local bars like old inn and finished up at a rock bar called Monty’s which was class. The main theme running through this was the friendliness of the people of Fife .

Dunfermline.
Dunfermline. The Abbey and Palace are exceptional from outside. They are surprising significant in size and design. Set in leafie gardens. Inside doesn't disappoint either. Ancient and modern history blended together beautifully. We arrived to the sound of the great organ playing which added hugely to the experience of absorbing so much historical incident. The power struggle to rule Scotland was decided by murder, the coronation of the ultimate liberator and his final resting place
It is an awesome experience for any would be historian. The Andrew Carnegie Centre is a few steps away also a goldmine of wonderful history.
All of this absolutely freezing of charge.

So much historical interest.
So much historical interest. The abbey, Andrew Carnegie birthplace experience, fabulous Pittendreich Park - originally surrounging the local landowner's house from he and his family were banned on the one day townspeople could visit it for being too radical .He bought it in 1902 and gave it to the people of Dunfermline. The resident peacocks have just been given the freedom of the city .
Easy access to Culdross, the most perfect post medieavel burgh Scotland, the Fife Coastal Path, and Edinburgh.

We would really like to start our review by mentioning the staff, as they were friendly and accommodating.
There were plenty of parking spaces.
The hotel decor was lovely especially at the entrance.
Our room was roasting hot, the bed was really high and comfortable.
The room appeared clean and tidy when we initially entered the room.
We appreciated the late morning check out.
We would have loved to have stayed longer but we had booked it for one night when we came to see Skerryvore play live in Dunfermline.
Breakfast was fabulous, free range sausages, bacon and eggs cooked to perfection by owner Brent. Cereal, juice, fruit and yoghurt on offer as well as toast tea and coffee all for £8.50 per head. Although we travelled from Newcastle to Inverkeithing station there was Dunfermline station right behind Auld Mill. Short taxi ride though. Pub 15 minute walk from hotel doing excellent food as no evening meals available though there is a small friendly bar in hotel. I will definitely be back to Auld Mill in near future.
All in all, it was good value and we had a comfortable stay. Owners and staff were friendly and helpful. We had an interesting chat with the new owner and his wife, who took over the hotel a year ago and have clearly made good progress in upgrading the place. They shared their plans for further improvements and I look forward to returning at a later stage to see what they have achieved. The hotel is situated in a nice village in rural Fife with easy access to the town of Dunfermline
