The roads into the village are small and tight and it isn't the sort of village you will drive past, you have to go out of your way to come here and to be honest it shows. If any of you have ever watched the League of Gentlemen "this is a local shop for local people, there is nothing for you here" there is that sort of vibe throughout the village. It looks stunning, nice historic buildings, town square but the moment you enter the village you feel like an outsider, going into local farm shops and people just stare, talk to you without making eye contact it is all very strange. Ok firstly if you want to eat food DO NOT go to the Chagford Inn, the prices are disgusting for what they actually bring you, £20 for a burger which literally consisted of a burger smaller than a standard Mcdonalds cheese burger, 10-12 fries and leaf salad, my partner had Pate for starter which cost £10 and the entire starter was finished with one tablespoon, cannot comment on other places. It seems very much like the village is run on rules and if your not from the village they will make you feel like that an outsider, was not very welcoming place. Beehive Farm shop is brilliant, all homemade breads, pasties, food it was very nice and would recommend this rather than going to the Spar.

If you want to combine a culinary experience with peace and quiet in an English country setting, Gidleigh Park should be on your list of destinations. Chagford is a beautiful unspoiled town on the edge of Dartmoor with four pubs. I would recommend the Ring O Bells, who's signature pies are probably the best I have ever had in an public house. Castle Drogo is a stunning NT treasure and a must visit. The roads are very narrow so you will need a steady nerve when travelling around.

I loved this little village, enough to keep me interested. Great shops that catered for people with food allergies. Would definitely return. Ate at both The Three Crowns and Chagford Inn, both of which were excellent.

Excellent choice of places to eat, pubs and cafes.

Excellent choice of places to eat, pubs and cafes. Good range of shops with butchers and bakers as well as a Spar convenience store. Bowden hardware was a real highlight, an alladins cave... Something for everyone! The main reason for our visit was the local walks, Fenworthy Reservoir and Castle Drogo were two we enjoyed, would go further next time. Very dog friendly area.

The food is excellent. Beautifully cooked and presented. The room was comfortable and quiet. The hotel is very well situated in the middle of the village. Although there is no car park for the hotel, there is plenty of parking nearby.
