Great little hotel. I especially love the fact they allow dogs, and a door directly to the grounds is so convenient. Love the 'balcony' chairs etc. Good location for great walks. Lovely breakfast and good evening meals plus choice of wine. A particular thank you to Jamie the barman, good guy, making you feel welcome, friendly and helpful. The bed was incredibly comfortable too, plus the updated bathroom was good. The hotel does have a charm about it.

This is a lovely area with good opportunities for outdoor activities such as walking, cycling in nearby forests and kayaking on the Solway coast. If you just want to relax nearby Kippford has pubs with outdoor seating overlooking the pictureseque harbour.

Dalbeattie is smaller than nearby Castle Douglas or Newton Stewart Its is a very pleasant town with reasonable facilities but it is a great location to base yourself and explore the whole of the Solway Coast and the old Stewartry. Eating out options are limited especially if you are looking for dog friendly

Dalbeattie has a beautiful park , wonderful for taking photos. There are lots of little shop to wander into. Nothing looked boarded up or shabby. We chose to eat in but there are plenty of other outlets to choose from.

Dalbeattie town did not really feature in our visit at all other than the provision of sandwiches and juice for picnic lunches. We are keen on walking and exploring the countryside, forest walks, Caerlaverock nature reserve, Threave Gardens etc.

    Lovely friendly scottish town.

Lovely friendly scottish town. With plenty of eating out options and take aways. Town wood walk and coniston park great for a stroll. For the more active we did the forest walk with fantastic views (would be suitable for pushchair)to Kippford (5.5miles) a lovely seaside village, recommended the Mariner pub for a refreshing drink and or lunch overlooking the sea. The Sun Inn/ Chinese restaurant was a good value evening with great playlist and fantastic food. Birchtree great relaxing bar with very good food.

We stayed at Birch tree Hotel for 1 night last year and found it to be an ideal base. So decided to stay for 2 nights this time to explore more of the surrounding areas. We visited Castle Douglas and Kirkcudbright, and walked along the Jubilee Path between Kippford and Rockcliffe. Staff were friendly and accommodating. Our 2 pillows were too low, and asked for another 2 which were on our bed when we returned later Bar was very pleasant to sit in.

Was staying for a golf weekend. The room was nice and clean. Bathroom was the same. Excellent pressure in the shower. Really couldn't fault it in any way. The best part of the stay was the staff and the locals. Really excellent. The pub that is part of the hotel was a proper pub. And what a great selection of draught lager's. Tremendous price's too. Will be going back for another golf weekend and I will definitely be staying here again

The breakfast was very nice as were all the staff. The Hotel is set in a beautiful grounds in a good location to Dalbettie. The original stone building is in good condition with pleanty of history and character. I believe there are bedrooms upstairs in the original building but didnt get to see them. Also, there is standalone chalet which I also belive is quite good but again cant verify.
