Fauld O Wheat Shepherds Hut , Loch Ken ,Off Grid, hotel in Castle Douglas

Located in Castle Douglas in the Dumfries and Galloway region, Fauld O Wheat Shepherds Hut, Loch Ken, Off Grid has a garden.

Beautiful location, isolated and there’s not a thing missing from the shepards hut that you could possibly need. The shower has good pressure and can get super hot if you want it to which I wasn’t expecting from a solar powered property. It’s so cosy and relaxing, I can’t think of a single thing to improve it further. Great place, super host ❤️

Castle Douglas is a town, as opposed to a village, and as such hac#s all sorts of shops. You do not get furniture shops in a tourist town, there are several independant shops. If you are in need of retail therapy this is a good place to start. By syaying here you are in a central position for visiting the rest of South-west Scotland.

    Beautiful countryside.

Beautiful countryside. Lots of different opportunities. walks. Wildlife, bird watching trails. Outdoor activities - lochs. Picturesque villages . Wigtown - the eccentric wee book town was quite unique! Kirkcudbright- lovely creative village with ruin castle an lots of art galleries. Lots still to find and explore in Dumfries and Galloway. There is something here for everyone!

The only positive thing you can say about Castle Douglas is...

The only positive thing you can say about Castle Douglas is that it is a convenient place from which you can travel and explore Dumfries and Galloway. I spent one day watching the red kites feeding at Bellymack Hill Farm, and the day I left I took the opportunity to travel to the Mull of Galloway because I was relatively close to it. Don't plan to stay in Castle Douglas in order to explore the town itself, there is nothing to see.

A lovely little town with plenty of shops which appealed to the wife. The natives were friendly and we enjoyed the banter. For the fellows don't miss the brewery at the bottom of town, Great tap, some great beers. Came home within lots of meat from each of the butchers shops.

Castle Douglas is a favourite place where we spend some time on any trip which demands a stop off to take advantage of the independent retail stores. We know staff are friendly and cheerful, don't hassle customers and always give a warm welcome. After some shopping there is quite a number of places to stop for coffee and cake or even a more substantial meal.

The hotel has a new block with modern rooms that are very nicely designed and furnished. Not huge but adequate size. We had dinner in the evening and it was ok, reasonable food and value. But the really nice thing was the small loch site ans being able to see the swallows (or swifts?) flying around it.

The hotel was fantastic, it looks very classy, the rooms were immaculately clean ( we even got an upgrade) staff were very welcoming and friendly and very knowledgable about the area. The food was delicious, we stayed in the hotel for dinner twice. If we’re in the area we will definitely stay again.
