The Castle Inn, hotel in Castle Combe

Dating from the 12th century, the historical Castle Inn boasts original features and an innovative restaurant. Situated in picturesque Castle Combe, the Castle Combe Circuit is half a mile away.

The pub is delightful and we had a lovely lunch. My reason for scoring slightly lower is our disappointment with the original room we were allocated. Room 10 avoid at all costs!!! We made jokes about it being the penthouse room on the way up the countless number of stairs however the joke backfired because not only was it literally on and overlooking the roof we suddenly realised the imposing noise we could hear was from all extractors/generators outside our bedroom windows on the roof !! This is not a budget hotel, we paid approximately £450 for 2 nights RO. I immediately contacted reception to advise there was no way I was prepared to stay in this room and would find it impossible to sleep with the noise penetrating into it. I have to say they were very good and luckily managed to move us to a superior room but my point is this room should either be heavily discounted with some advice on view and noise issues. Had there not been another room available we would have been in trouble.

The Old Library, hotel in Castle Combe

Situated in Castle Combe, in a historic building, 16 km from Lacock Abbey, The Old Library is a holiday home with a garden and barbecue facilities.

I was looking for a peaceful place to stay before visiting Castle Combe Circuit early the next morning. The Old Library was situated in a perfect location, a charming property full of character, spotlessly clean and well equipped, everything I needed and more.

Guyers House Hotel and Restaurant, hotel in Castle Combe

Situated in Corsham, 10 km from Lacock Abbey, Guyers House Hotel and Restaurant features accommodation with a garden, free private parking, a shared lounge and a terrace.

The receptionist with the short dark hair and the mature who booked us out were good but for all the other staff it seemed that they lacked the training and service expected at a 4 star hotel. The grounds were pleasant.

Castle Combe is beautiful and small.

Castle Combe is beautiful and small. We ended up doing a 3 mile circular walk which was great. The buildings are very pretty but it is such a small village you won't be there for long if that is all you have come to see and if the weather is bad, you will struggle to find many indoor alternatives. Having said that, the coffee at The Stables was good and the pre-ordered picnic was very tasty and as I said, the village itself is very pretty.

The hotel and the surrounding area are well worth the trip.

The hotel and the surrounding area are well worth the trip. We stayed in one of the cottages which was renovated to and excellent standard maintaining original features. The gardens are interesting. I declined to be shown to the cottage but would recommend being taken to the one given as the allocated one was not obvious.

The Hotel is not in Castle Combe itself.

The Hotel is not in Castle Combe itself. It is a short drive away from Castle Combe up a very narrow one track road. The hotel is wonderful and we had a great dinner meal there. Not so fussed about breakfast. We did not want a cooked breakfast and the breakfast bar itself could have been improved.

One of my favourite locations in all of the UK, I have not been back in 29 years and the village has lost no charm at all. Hot chocolate and cake from a friendly gentleman in the village was perfect on the wet day that we visited.

    I loved Castle Combe.

I loved Castle Combe. It’s a really picturesque town great for photos. If you’re there for longer than a couple of hours then the walking tracks surrounding the town are exceptional, especially during autumn. So many amazing walking trails and leafy pathways and wild blackberries all along the tracks. I spent ages just walking around. It’s even nice to just sit under a tree in front of the Manor with a book. If you plan on taking public transport then make sure you plan getting there and leaving carefully. Public transport didn’t run there on the day I planned to go so I had to take an Uber there, but then getting an Uber out of the town is not an option (unless you’re very lucky). So just don’t take an Uber into the town on a Sunday if you’re also planning on leaving on Sunday or you might find yourself stranded. There are buses that come but only a couple a day, and some are a bit of a distance from the city centre and you’re likely to lose phone reception if you try and walk to those stops.. so plan ahead wisely. But there should be a bus that comes right to the city centre- just don’t miss it! P.S If you go for a walk outside of the main town make sure to find the Hollow! The little fairy house hidden in a log, inside it you’ll find a book where you can sign your name :)

This place is a dream ! Very well located, just a few steps from the center of Castle Combe, this house seems coming from a fairytale. The exteriors are lovely, with a little space for the car. Inside, what a surprise for us to see how equipated it was ! All you need is inside, to enjoy a peaceful night. It’s very cosy you feel like at home. And I think it could be very lovely during winter !

The properties pictures do not do this place justice at all. Set in a very picturesque landscape on a working farm just down the road from Castle Combe was perfect. The place has a very cosy vibe whilst being a sizeable property. awe particularly loved the different nooks of the layout. Honourable mention to the two peacocks in the carpark welcoming us.
