Couldn't fault the White Hart, really. A working pub and restaurant with rooms above. Loads more character than a chain hotel, some real history about the place.
Breakfast is included, which is a real bonus, and there's parking available on site - not sure if you can reserve a spot in advance, but there was room for me late on a Friday night when I checked in.
The management and staff are lovely: welcoming, friendly and clearly dedicated. It's not the Ritz, but it's excellent value: the bed was comfy, a proper king size and clean; the room was cozy and the ensuite bathroom was well-equipped and spacious. My room offered plenty of storage and space to spread out in, a wardrobe with generous hanging space, a pedestal fan, a couple of comfy chairs and a good-sized dressing table. There was decent lighting to see by which can be controlled from the bed, which always feels like a thoughtful touch. Tea and coffee facilities, hairdryer, the usual shizzle. Extra pillows could be found in the wardrobe and two full sets of clean fluffy white towels were provided.
For those that take an interest, the ale is well looked after, too. I wasn't staying long so didn't have a chance to sample the restaurant's output, apart from the breakfast.
The coffee machine in the breakfast area uses freshly-ground beans for each cup which, for this traveller, makes all the difference in the morning.
The hot water is HOT and there's lashings of it, it seems: the radiators did a fine job of keeping me toasty and there's a heated towel rail in the bathroom.
I didn't ask for my room (21) to be turned over while I was out for the day, which suited me fine.

Great place for our needs, peaceful and roomy. We were cycling the King Alfred's Way and it was particularly helpful the house had a washing machine for our kit.
Could have stayed longer quite happily, whole group agreed it was our nicest stop of the tour.

A lovely towncentre during the day but when trying to find an evening restaurant it is lacking . One pub that had good trip advisor reviews no longer serves food leaving only Weatherspoons or Pizza Express unless you like Chinese or Indian. I've never seen so many Turkish Barbers in one town! There are a lot of empty shops on the High Street which makes the town look run down.Probably due to the modern shopping centre that has some nice shops.

Andover has pubs and bars, supermarkets and plenty of places to eat. There are enjoyable walks up to the Ladies Walk where you can see across the town and also to Charlton Lakes where there is a play area for kids.
Andover is also close to Basingstoke, Salisbury and Winchester.

It is a quiet town very convenient for visiting Winchester, Salisbury, the New Forest, Newbury, Whitchurch and Southampton. Anton Lakes local Natural Reserve gives a good opportunity to relax sitting on a bench and watching wildlife birds. Don't forget to visit the local Iron Age history museum and beautiful St.Mary's church.

A quiet town, without much to see.
A quiet town, without much to see. The Anton River canal near the old mill and the Anton lakes are the only places worth visiting, the river has ducks and swans as well. The town has supermarkets, and a train station and the distances are relatively easy to walk, even with luggage.

The Jack Russell is a lovely country pub/hotel set in a beautiful location. The rooms are large and well equipped, staff were amazing, and everything is extremely dog-friendly (a very important point for us). Both dinner and breakfast were delicious, with a great choice of options, many of them sourced from local produce. Overall a very pleasant stay.
