Lyon is a gastronomic centre with a pretty architectural façade ranging from antiquity to modern day. Place Bellecour is centrally located between the Saône and Rhône Rivers in the 2nd arrondissement and opens out into major shopping streets.
On the banks of the Saône lies the district of Vieux Lyon, a great example of the Renaissance and full of museums such as the Lyon History Museum. Winding your way through the beautiful streets you can make your way up to the spectacular white-stone Basilica of Notre-Dame de Fourvière and look down over the city.
There is a lot going on in the main park of Lyon, Parc de la Tête d'Or, which is home to a zoo of exotic animals as well as various sports facilities and a large lake for boating. Boats of a different description are docked on the banks of the Rhône River; they host parties late into the night.
For a taste of tradition, Lyon’s famous bistros, or Bouchons Lyonnais, provide a cosy atmosphere for some of the best in French gastronomy. Plan your perfect holiday in one of Booking.com’s 130+ hotels, apartments or guest houses.
We liked the old city and the high La Fourbière. Nice charming bookshops and the Miniature and Cinema Museum was an unexpected marvel. Despite the fame of the city for foodies, we didn't have any kind of gastronomical epiphany. We encountered very expensive the meal offers in different areas of the city and for different publics. We still found the city shopping options a bit expensive. Maybe for bigger budgets.

A different city for a weekend break with not 1 but 2 riverbanks to explore. Ride the funicular up to Fourviere for the views, the church is also amazing (don't miss the undercroft). The Museum of Confluences has some interesting artefacts, but the best bit is how they are presented to tell stories (the captions in English as well as French). Transport is easy with the Metro and a network of trams which run until late night, especially at the weekend.

It is a wonderful city with rich traditions and culture.
It is a wonderful city with rich traditions and culture. Unfortunately, the "newcomers" ruin the entire atmosphere... Be very careful, especially on public transport, if you don't want to be robbed.

A magnificent city.
A magnificent city. Glad we stayed both sides of the river and got to experience both ‘vibes’. 3 nights wasn’t enough. Really only got one full day. Vieux Lyon is beautiful and cathedral and theatre ruins are spectacular areas to visit. Would return in a heartbeat. Try Aunt Betty’s for a lovely watering hole. Excellent boulangerie round the corner from the square in Vieux Lyon. You could treat yourself to a meal at Brasserie George’s. Eat, eat, eat!

Pleasant place to visit.
Pleasant place to visit. The two rivers that cross the city bring quietness and peace of mind. The large historical area provides a walk-through trip to the past while the multiple cafes and restaurants invite you to just seat and enjoy de view. The city is very well served with public transports so you can even rent a place outside the city center and still be close to everything.

Lyon is a wonderful city, with a specific atmosphere, colorful and lively. There are many sights and places of interest. The old town is amazing with its narrow streets, small squares and cafes. The sweets are incredibly delicious.

The whole experience was lovely. Perfect hosts. Lovely apartment. Breakfast was served in the most wonderful of surroundings and was delicious. Best coffee I have had in France. The tea my husband had was a revelation. He didn't need milk or sugar in it as he usually does. We have the name of it, so we will be looking for it.
Perfect hosts and so helpful. Judith had the unerstated elegance only a French lady can have. Location great.
Air con, pool(s), comfy bed, perfect location, everything you could need from a hotel. If you need anything, ask and the staff will go and get it with a smile (especially kettles. Have seen a few reviews saying no kettle provided. This is France, and the French don't understand tea. This hotel happily does understand that British people like tea, and so has the required facilities, you just have to ask).
The location was close to vieux Lyon but the train to the hotel up the hill at Fourvière stopped at 11pm. Quiet place the staff was very nice the hotel room was perfect modern and clean, and not too expensive.
Good welcome late at night after long train journey. Was given water and milk, tea tray in the room. Comfortable bed, spacious bathroom for France. Close to station - 10 minute walk even for an old couple!
Good sized comfortable room. Pleasant staff. Good, plentiful breakfast and two very good dinners. The location was perfect for us as we were journeying through France .
