Campanile Dunkerque Sud - Loon Plage, hotel in Grand-Fort-Philippe

This Campanile is just a 5-minute drive from Dunkerque Port and train station. It offers free Wi-Fi and air-conditioned guest rooms with flat-screen TV. Free parking is also provided.

It was very nice to be given a ground floor bedroom with a wet room for my disabled wife. Lots of blue badge parking outside too. Everything worked well, and it's very close to Dunkerque docks for the car ferry. The staff were polite and helpful.

Premiere Classe Dunkerque Loon Plage, hotel in Grand-Fort-Philippe

Set just 14 km from Dunkerque, this Premiere Classe is easily accessible from the motorway and not far from the seafront. It is 30 km from the Belgian border. The guest rooms are equipped with a TV.

The price for an overnight stop off was fantastic. We arrived at 9.15pm and literally needed somewhere to lay our heads for the night. The decor is very dated but the room was spotless clean and the beds were very comfy. Rooms are small but for what you pay it's expected. I gave full marks 10/10 because it was exactly as described and exactly what I expected actually I didn't expect the beds to be as comfy so that was a welcome surprise. Also the guy at check in was really nice.

Unfortunately we did not arrive early enough to be able to explore as we had hoped. Also the coastal access to the hotel was under construction therefore we were rerouted and detoured to the hotel which made it difficult to find. The hotel should include what cafe's or restaurants are close by, we did not know that there was a very unique restaurant near the hotel and had to go to McDonalds for dinner that evening.

I was only traveling through, having visited Dunkerque and on my way to the South, but I would have loved to stay longer in this town. I didn't visit the beaches (in Petit-Fort-Philippe) but from a distance they looked ideal for a family trip. I did make walks on the "Grand" side of the harbour along the coast and in the nature reserve. Really beatiful and relaxing.

Lovely locale and views but not a lot going on in the winter. Looks like all the bars/cafes on the waterside have either closed for good or, hopefully, just the season. Luckily, the ecellent 'Aux Mets de Meme' restaurant is still going strong but lunchtimes only except for Fri and Sat. You can see all the open restaurants and bars across the water in Petit Fort Phillipe but they are a good 5kms drive away!

A very small town with hardly any bars and no restaurants but if you are prepared for a 10 minute cycle ride you are in Gravelines with a few bars etc. A lovely beach is nearby and I had some nice walks along it.
