We didn't get the chance to experience the apartment because it was deserted at the appointed time for booking in. When the owner finally responded to my calls, emails, texts, some hours later, she lied about the booking in time and blamed us, finally admitting she wasn't open at the allotted time. I was forced to find alternative accommodation at 5pm on a Friday night, at great expense.

Fresh produce, especially fish, veg and fruit sold at various markets make it a great place if you like cooking. The town is small but has most facilities and plenty to do, it is close to magnificent beaches and a good base for exploring the area which has much to offer.

Bes was comfortable (only positive) Floor was dirty - fire door wedged open- cigarette buts by our door - children running and screaming around corridor at 1:00am - no A/C - toilet flush fell off- sink basin rusty - rotting material in bins by door - noisy trains passing every 20 mins - no dining place available - over priced at €117 - says dog friendly but nowhere to walk them. Worst place I have ever stopped in 50 years

Etaples has a lovely market square with good bars and restaurants which were used by the locals. A nice place to walk around.
There are some excellent little shops with great produce. Parking in the square is abundant and free.

I loved this Hotel. The Owner was friendly, helpful and had a beautiful French accent! The room was comfortable with clean sheets and towels, a kettle for your hot drinks and was very quiet; never heard a thing all night and it is located just off the main street and down a smaller street behind some flats and houses. Plenty of fast food type places and there is lots to see and do. Buffet breakfast which sets you up for the day and about an one hour from the Channel tunnel. A recommended stop for either one or several nights.
Very convenient location, only a few minutes walk from the town square where there are various restaurants, a supermarket and other small shops.
The road that this property is on is fairly narrow but there is on street parking and we had no problem finding a space.
Key safe entry worked perfectly.
We visited the war cemetery on the outskirts of Etaples which is astonishingly well kept and was a very moving experience.
We were very pleased with our accommodation at La Surprise, it really was a surprise. The view across Etaples on to port and the sea from the sunny terrace were very interesting and ever changing. Flo was chatty and attentive and entertained us at breakfast with her sailing experiences on her yacht, the ‘Lizard’.
Flo can speak a little English but I am sure she appreciates her guests speaking some French to her.
Lovely hotel opposite a quiet square with easy overnight parking. Large room, which the host had thoughtfully airconditioned. Comfy bed and great shower
