Between lush hills and undulating coastline, Gijón is the largest Asturias city. Its oldest part covers a peninsula with the modern Elogio del Horizonte sculpture at its green tip. Underground are the Campo Valdés Roman bath ruins, and Campa de Torres has an archaeology park.
Flanking the peninsula is Poniente beach, curving between the marina and aquarium, and overlooked by the Talasoponiente spa. Small Playa del Arbeyal is by the port, and the promenade of popular San Lorenzo beach continues to waterfront San Pedro church.
