This lovely flat is in a special place in Getxo. Puerto Viejo is steps away (literally) from the beach. Communication was fantastic with our hosts; they were responsive and easy to chat with.
There are loads of restaurants and bars right out the front door. Well-equipped for those who prefer to cook in the great kitchen (yay, induction stoves)!
It was an overall nice stay. 👌🏼

Using the local transport is easy and we recommend the Bilbao Bizkaia Card - it can be used on all public transport and if you share a card between 2 people or more the additional fares are discounted. Can buy in stations etc. The town is busy but not loud and feels safe. Local people are friendly and helpful with things like the public bike hire.

This is a lovely town about 25-30 minutes by metro to Bilbao. People in Gexto are friendly, loads of restaurants and shops here also. We used this as a base to visit Bilbao and really glad we stayed here and not in BIlbao itself which we found to be just OK.

If you're staying in Bilbao, consider the neighborhood of Gexto. It features many local restaurants, grocery stores, cafes, bakeries, shops, and other businesses, all within a few streets that are easily walkable. The neighborhood is hilly, so there is a lot of up and down walking. The metro is in the town center and connects to downtown Bilbao in about 20 minutes. The metro stops every 5 to 10 minutes (Algorta), depending on the day. There are local buses to get around, but we didn't have time to figure out the schedule. We mostly walked. It was 15 minutes to where we stayed by the edge of the cliff overlooking the water.

Beautiful place that has a lot to offer: lovely city, plenty of restaurants and bars with local food, port, beach, great for water sports, walks, running, cycling. I recommend using the Vizcaya Bridge to go to the other side of the river. It's fun!

Getxo is now a suburb of Bilbao on the sea shore.
Getxo is now a suburb of Bilbao on the sea shore. It has charm and the walk along the estuary and beach fronts are enjoyable, especially in the evening or weekend when residents get outside to socialise. Information about the grand houses on the seafront are displayed all along the walkway, with English translations. The small old fishing port is a great place to stop and have some "Raciones" and people watch. You might have to be patient for a table though as it is popular. The Vizcaya bridge is fascinating and well worth a visit. Given its proximity to the port we were surprised how clean Ereaga beach is (we didn´t get to the preferred Soplana beach some 5 km along the coast). Overnight accommodation is expensive compared to other areas along the coast. We stayed here because of its proximity to Bilbao airport (only 20 minutes by car) and it was worth staying for 24 hours.

Getxo is a great spot. you can access beaches and small towns. Great bars for Pintxos and wine. The Vizcaya bridge is here, definitely recommend a trip over to Portugalete, either on foot or in the gondola. Las Arenas is a great little town to potter around. Superb links to Bilbao. there is also a large shopping center - Artea.
There is a great walk along from the Vizcaya Bridge to the city beach.
the area is spotlessly clean and we felt very safe walking around.
Drop into the Kaxio bar for a spot of people watching and pintxos.
On the Portugalete side there is a fab Italian restaurant - Garbatella.
You can get a Barik card in the metro and it will take you all over.

A beautiful location overlooking the bay. The hotel is charming and I loved the decor. Great restaurant in the gardens and a covered restaurant downstairs. Food was fabulous and the crowd was delightful.
The staff at the front desk are very helpful and accommodating. I was very impressed with their attention to detail and service.
The outside of the building and my balcony could do with some refreshing, but the hotel inside, my room and restaurant were really very nice and modern. Lots of choice at breakfast and it all looked nice and fresh. It was a great location, close to amenities, lovely promenade to walk along and the beach just across the road.
The location, close to Getxo and Metro with excellent public transport. The area is quiet and seems safe.Worth a short trip on the Puente Colgante to visit Portuleguete.
