The location was nice, not resort-y. Beaches nice. The stray dogs were sweet. Especially Luna! I wanted to adopt her!

Saona lodge, hotel in Mano Juan

The place is very nice. I really enjoyed my stay. --- I had the most simple option (Standard double room), which includes a tent shaped separate room (exactly like in the photo), with a bed, light, electricity socket and fan. - The bed is very conformable and has a mosquito net which protects it from mosquitoes quite well (could not complain). I slept really well. - There is wifi in the property, which works pretty well everywhere (in the shared area and in the room). There is also public free wifi on the island along the whole sea line. - There are mosquitoes on the island, but in the town area of Mano Juan it is way less than if you go outside the town to the "jungle" area. In general I didn't consider mosquitoes a problem while I was in Saona Lodge or in the town area in general. - Staff of Saona Lodge meet you on the pier when you arrive. Also they will assist you to find a motorbike for rent. And in general the staff is friendly and helpful. - The beach is 150 meters from the property. The whole coast line of Mano Juan is a beach. So measure distance on Google maps to the sea, and this is a distance to the beach. The most fancy part starts from the pier (200m more). - You should carefully consider logistics of how to get to the property. As there is only one public boat going to the island. As of December 2024 it starts at 9am from Bayahibe. Other than that there is a private boat, which costs around 150-200 usd per boat (max 5 person per boat). --- I really enjoyed my stay. The atmosphere is incredible, the beach is beautiful, Saona island is gorgeous. Thank’s a lot to Saona Lodge and Mano Juan!

Juan Carlos is a Swiss/Spanish nice and easy going guy.

Juan Carlos is a Swiss/Spanish nice and easy going guy. He is a perfect host. I felt really comfortable in his house. He made sure I had a great and genuine experience in my short time in the island, and treated me as a friend. He was kind enough to provide breakfast, lunch and dinner at a very fair price. Same for boat transportation to the island. It was great to walk around and share some talks with him. The place is simple, as I would expect for an small island, but tidy and clean. The washroom is private, and it is outside the room. Don’t expect a hotel room. He also let me use, as a courtesy, his standup board, snorkel and bicycle. You could also rent for a very fair price his little moto. Don’t forget your repellent as I did. Juan has a nice little dog Mandy which fast will be your friend. I highly recommend the place, and I really hope I can come back! Finally, you pay the accommodation and other things you consume with cash only, so bring enough cash, as you won’t have ATMs around. Don’t leave your garbage behind!
