Neils is a very friendly staff member at reception desk. The room is spacious. A good location to ride your bikes out of town and a quick car ride to the old town & cathedral. Our first year staying in this property was much better. This summer was a poor experience.

The room was spacious and clean, equipped with first-rate furniture, well-lit, and the bathroom was basically following those standards. The breakfast buffet had very rich offerings and something for every taste, including a generous vegan section at the breakfast bar. The location is clearly a bit off the beaten path but that's why you go there in the first place, but still close enough to Freiburg to enjoy the offerings of a first-rate destination. The staff was very courteous, helpful, and accommodating. The SPA is also well-equipped and with a nice view of the surrounding landscape. Electric car charging stations are also available. The surrounding nature invites for hiking, biking, running, and simply for enjoying the quite spectacular scenery. The dinners at the local restaurant were a delight and again, a good portion of the menu was dedicated to vegan offerings. The staff also took the time to explain the peculiarities of the wines from the region.

If you are after staying in a traditional, old fashioned , quaint hotel, the Sichelschmiede ticks all the boxes. The location in the old town centre, with shops and restaurants at your doorstep, cannot be beaten. The room was spacious and cozy, furnished in a more traditional rather than a modern way. The included breakfast was continental only ,but in saying that there was a good amount of choice: cold cuts and cheeses, jams, bread, yoghurt, cereal, juice and tea and coffee.
We stayed in a junior suite with a quirky staircase to the bedroom. The accommodation was light and airy with a stove-top and fridge - enough to prepare a a light meal. As we were self-catering, we didn’t eat in the hotel. Everywhere was spotlessly clean and our balcony enjoyed the afternoon and evening sun. The accommodation is walking distance to the Schauinsland cable car down to Freiburg.

The hotel was super clean and the apartment was new (I dont know about the rooms). Im sure there was no better place to spend or vacation at than this place. The staff was friendly the location is perfect.. walking distance from a cafe, pharmacy, playground, and a restaurant. the nature is breath taking. It’s just the perfect escape.
Gorgeous location in the Schwarzwald with plenty of hiking and mountain bike trails at your doorstep. Excellent apartment with a great bathroom and a beautiful view from the balcony. Nice sights in the area as well such at the mining museum. Great breakfast and Flammkuchen evening for hotel guests.
