Very Americanized, a lot of restaurants and stores. Highly recommend to go to ‘Breaking Bread’ bakery.
They have great coffee and amazing baked goods
Getting around is pretty easy, and convenient.
The locals are the nicest with everything.
However I do recommend to stay somewhere else more quiet and then just to drive to Tamarindo to visit

The beach is very nice.
The beach is very nice. The night life is busy and the dining options are many. There is not much to do besides learning surfing and eating. The town is small and in 4-5 days you done it all there. Too many self imposed parking hustlers. Overall a nice town with a very busy night life.

It was my fourth time in Tamarindo and this time I could not wait to get away. It’s basically become a North American playground and has lost its Costa Rican charm . All the signs are now in English and the prices for groceries are really high. Sorry, but I’m done with that place!

Tamarindo is a bigger tourist beach town.
Tamarindo is a bigger tourist beach town. Lots of hotels, restaurants, shops, and people trying to sell you shorts, souvenirs, surf lessons, tours, nightclubs, drugs (yes, drugs!), etc. So, if you want quiet, Tamarindo probably isn't your jam. We had our choice of many different restaurants - Italian, Asian, Costa Rican, American Tex Mex, & Indian, quiet, sports bars, coffee shops, & beachfront. It literally a one-stop shop for your touristy vacation. Many of the surf shops will also offer tours through other companies, so if you want to get away for a river boat cruise, or even get up to the mountains for some adventure park excitement, you can arrange that as well.

Tamarindo is a nice sized beach town along the Pacific coast. It is within an 1.5 hour drive from the Liberia international airport and the roads are paved the entire way. Within the town there are many restaurants, shops, hotels, bars, and surf shops. It was an easy town to walk around in as everything was close. We surfed 6 of the 7 days and took private lessons with La Muda Surf School. Highly recommend this school as they were professional, very helpful and friendly. We improved our skills a lot over those 6 days. Our favorite restaurant (which is hard to choose as there are many) was the Green Papaya Taco Bar. They had the best ceviche and tacos. Will come back.

Tamarindo is great place to stay.
Tamarindo is great place to stay. It is the hub for so many day tours. It has good places to eat. And as with most of Costa Rica, the people are warm and friendly.
About the only possible negative I can think of is that the town of Tamarindo is bustling with people, beachgoers and a few beach bums.

It was a beautiful property in lovely setting surrounded by well kept gardens. A great swimming pool and nice outdoor area under cover if it rained. The breakfasts were amazing and freshly made for us. The staff were so friendly and really appreciated the use of a washing machine as first one in Costa Rica without having to find a laundry. 5 minute walk to supermarket and a bit further to shops.
the breakfast was great and had a ton of options! i am gluten free and was able to eat !! the place is attached to a restaurant which has great food and the hotel is in an excellent location! it is very central to downtown tamarindo but not right in the middle where you can hear the night life !
A lovely, intimate, hotel set a little away from the hustle and bustle of Tamarindo. Although only 5 min walk from restaurants. Owner and staff were really helpful. Room was very clean and the bed was comfortable. Outdoor shower was a great feature, as was the swinging chair.
There location is great and they have parking outside. They have cold water available on the second floor. The breakfast is very good in the cafe: a coffee of a typical Costa Rican breakfast or pancakes (the cafe con leche is similar to a cappuccino).
The hotel was amazing, and was the best location you can find In Tamarindo. The room was large with all ammenrities, the private patio in the beach was the best!. Ronaldo and his staff are simply the best! It really felt like a home away from home.
