Hotel Colinas del Sol is a mini-resort, a destination hotel. After noisy nights at beach or resort hotels in tourist towns, the quiet is amazing. The grounds are a garden of Eden with numerous birds, shaded paths, and cupolas. The restaurant serves a good breakfast and serves dinner 5 days per week, and lunch 3 days per week. A measure of the care which is taken is that the newer rooms on a hill have plants designed to attract hummingbirds in the concrete planter. Our room did not have AC, but it wasn't necessary. Atenas claims that it has the best climate in the world and I agree. The temperatures which might seem uncomfortably high are not because the humidity is so low in January. The owners and staff are friendly, helpful, and speak excellent English. One of the owners/managers is German so it is also German friendly. It is about 15 minutes walk or 5 minute drive from the center of Atenas where there are numerous supermarkets, restaurants, and bakeries. Atenas is an upscale little town - the neighborhood is upscale and safe. Single women walk at night.

The chap who gave us a tour of the hotel on arrival was really nice and helpful.

The couple who runs the property are so kind and accommodating. We arrived late and they came to meet us and show us everything. They also made us dinner even though it was late. On my girlfriend’s birthday they brought her a cake with our dinner. Its a beautiful place to stay with great views and a super comfy bed too.

Atenas is a beautiful town in the low mountains of central Costa Rica. The climate is moderate and dry. The town is very authentic and on Sundays you can find many families in the Central Park enjoying family time. The best part is that Atenas is not overrun with tourists. Definitely one of my favourite spots in the country and I have visited ma y areas of Costa Rica.

Cute small town. Lovely to walk from the hotel to town. There are some hills so good if you like to walk. Good to ask about restaurants or where to get good coffee. There is great coffee from Holland and sweets ay the south corner of the park & a place called Tica cafe looked good but it was closed.Weather was warm but there was a nice breeze. Lots of laces to get groceries. Very helpful people !

It's an interesting area if you are adventurous in your driving habits. The weather can make for disappointing outdoor afternoons but the views from up in the clouds at Barons are great - if and when they clear !

This is the town that we have chosen to spend our retirement...
This is the town that we have chosen to spend our retirement in. It has all that a small town can offer including good restaurants and very friendly people. its proximity to many of Costa Ricas attractions makes it an ideal place to use as a starting point for many adventures. less than an hour to downtown San Jose, the beach, Poas volcano, and many more fun places.

Atenas is a quiet small town know for having the best climate in the world. It is an easy drive from the airport, yet away from the hustle-bustle. It does help to speak Spanish, as many of the locals do not speak English.

Kevin and Tannia, the hosts were extremely friendly and helpful. We arrived in the late evening. Tannia drove us to the nearby grocery store to buy few essentials. The bungalow was facing tropical forest and had mountain view. The hotel is surrounded by a lot of nature and feel very relaxing. An exceptional place to enjoy the quite place.
The facilities are extremely good and comfortable. Breakfast was delicious with great view over looking the mountains. I recommend the hotel for the other guests and families.

This hotel provides a swimming pool and a very beautiful garden. The room is quite big and provides a good shower. You can relax at the balcony in rocking chairs. The room includes swimming towels. The included breakfast was delicious!
I found easily the place and i received a nice welcome from the staff.
The hotel is on the top of the hill so you have a wonderfull panoramic view.
The bungalow is spacious.
