We booked only 1 night at MadreSierra to bridge the gap between our Tayrona trip and our way back to Cartagena. What a mistake - we should have stayed a week!!
This is the most hidden away paradise you can imagine. Everything from the service by lovely Fernando with complimentary welcome cocktails to bringing our bags up and down to the room and turning up our jacuzzi. This was an utter surprise and delight for our tired hiking bodies.
They’ve accommodated our room changes even though they didn’t have to, made us complimentary brownies when we mentioned we craved chocolate and simply have been fantastic in every regard.
This place also - just wow! You have WiFi to work, amazing nature, great food, natural pools in the river and a regular pool about to be finished.

This is an amazing and stylish new property, well located in close proximity to Parque Tayrona and the beach at Mendihuaca. It is spacious enough for a large family and has a great kiosk and bbq area. The grounds are lush and well kept as the rest of the property. We felt so welcome by the owners on arrival and the property keepers Luz and Yair looked after us very well throughout our stay and took us on a day trip to the nearby river and made the most delicious sancocho on site. Would definitively recommend a stay here in this family and dog friendly property.

Great location, very nice facilities. Pool, hammocks, isolated in the rainforest but just a short walk from the town/ main road/ bus stop. Tasty food, although they didn't always have everything on the menu and dinner was often served later than requested, but we were relaxing so all was fine.
Showers were cold (not freezing though). Unsure if this is normal or not, but it was fine as it's so humid.
Next to the Calabazo entrance which is ideal if you're a keen hiker. We only wanted to spend one day in the park so decided against the 4 hour uphill hike from Calabazo at the last minute and took the bus for 4k pp to El Zaino (main entrance, further east, 15 mins down the road) and followed the easier and obvious track all the way to Cabo San Juan beach and back (2.5 hours each way with lots of restaurants etc en route). Those we met that did the Calabazo either stopped overnight in the park, and walked out via the El Zaino. Or gave up and turned around haha. You can also get a mototaxi for 20k pp at Calabazo which knocks off the 4 hour uphill walk!
Even though we didn't use the Calabazo i have no regrets staying here as it was so lovely!

In general, the online description of the trail is not accurate. You are crossing a mountain range.... steep ups and downs followed by a steep down to the resort. Trails are not to U.S./Canada standards especially when one adds in the fact that horse/burrow traffic is a necessity for supplies. Hope for no precipitation.

Very hard trek if you want a real hiking experience Calabazo entrance is as rough and rural as it gets. If you want an easier trek go thru Zaino. We don't regret going thru Calabazo even though we sweated like never before. Bring lots of water but try to pack light
