Glamping Miraflores, hotel in Vicuña

Glamping Miraflores has an outdoor swimming pool, garden, a shared lounge and terrace in Vicuña.

If you want the real Valle del Elqui experience you have to stay here! The area is great to see the stars and you are next to a natural pool and a creek. Tents are super comfortable, and beds are warm! Please notice that it is a real tent so there is not too much heating inside, but there is a small heater that helps ;) Personnel is very helpful and they kept contact with us all the time via whatsapp.

Hotel Observatorio TukunMapu, hotel in Vicuña

Hotel Observatorio TukunMapu has a seasonal outdoor swimming pool, garden, a terrace and restaurant in Vicuña. This 3-star hotel offers a bar.

Gazing up at the star-filled night sky of Valle del Elqui in Chile from the comfort of our bed, looking up through the rooftop windows of our dome cabin at the Hotel Observatorio Tukum Mapu is a memory we will take with us always. We enjoyed a truly unique experience in our fully equipped, two-bedroom dome, along with an abundant and delicious breakfast served on the terrace alongside the pool. The day we arrived we had a great lunch in El Sauce Restaurant, which is on the same premises. The piano, played by our host James, and the wonderful artwork, created by our hostess Alita, provided a very welcoming and comfortable ambience. Their hospitality, friendliness and genuine care made our stay in Vicuña such a magical moment.

Beautiful hotel with exceptional attention to detail. The staff were very attentive and the amenities were perfect. Lots of history with a modern flare. Would love to return. The massages we booked were great and the hot tub on the terrace was secluded and peaceful.

We had an absolutely wonderful stay at Lila's place in Vicuña. Lila, the owner, is incredibly kind. She was always there to ask us how our day went and gave us excellent tips on places to visit and where to eat. The outdoor spaces are beautifully designed, with colorful houses, a lovely garden, a welcoming terrace, and a well-equipped communal kitchen. Everything is spotlessly clean, and we truly felt at home. We also rented bikes directly from Lila, which made our stay even more enjoyable. If we ever return to Vicuña, we will definitely stay with her again.

Lovely spot in Elqui Valley and very much worth a visit.

Lovely spot in Elqui Valley and very much worth a visit. However, be forewarned if you are not fluent in Spanish and are going for stargazing. We went to the observatory and planetarium and were disappointed to find no English explanation anywhere at all. Nada. My Spanish wasn't good enough to derive much comprehension or pleasure from the narrator's talk on the night sky, as amazing as it was to see. Chileans have a distinctive accent that drops syllables and speak very fast. The guide showed no concern or mercy, unlike most other Chileans we met who slowed down, repeated words, etc. Another bilingual tourist tried gamely to keep us informed. I did NOT expect much English to be spoken in Chile, of course, but I'd hoped/expected that a tourist attraction with an international reputation would be different. Weeks before we travelled we emailed to ask if there was any English offered and never received a reply. Btw, there was plenty of English in various museums we visited in Santiago and an English audiotour at Neruda's incredible Isla Negra home. More annoying at the observatory tho' was that after the stargazing the whole audience was herded to an area where people were exhorted to buy corny souvenir photos. Unluckily for us, the strangers who shared our van up to the mountain top opted for the pix and we waited 75 minutes in the van til they showed up. Even the driver was fed up but he seemed unable to figure out what to do.

It is a small town with character. You can reach the whole area if you rent a car, and enjoy places like the Artisan Market of Horcón, some of the Pisco distilleries, historical sites, etc. Tons of places to eat around the town Square with excellent food and ice cream. Our stargazing tour in Mamalluca Observatory was excellent. The Gabriela Mistral Museum is informative, easy to follow, and at the best international level.

Vicuña is not much of a destination by itself, but has shops and restaurants clustered around a central plaza. I recommend staying there as a base for exploring Elqui Valley. I suggest a few days in Vicuña for the vineyards and other valley sights, and a couple of days in a beachfront hotel in La Serena before departing.

A pleasant town to walk around, nice main square, many options for restaurants (we enjoyed El Chivato Negro) and the Gabriela Mistral museum is excellent. Well placed to tour the Elqui Valley for the day.

Charming town in a lovely area.

Charming town in a lovely area. There is a micro brewery and restaurant in town with top quality IPA on offer by the jug and excellent pizzas. The (motorcycle) ride up the valley to Pisco Elqui is very pleasant passing through small villages. A glass of Pisco Traditional (I think that was it, lemon and sugar anyway) at the restaurant on the square went down a treat.

One of the bigger towns in the beautiful Elqui Valley, Vicuna is a good base from which to explore the area. I would probably choose Pisco Elqui as a base if I were to go back, though -- it's more quaint, and you can visit the main pisqueras without having to drive afterwards (an important consideration, since a vehicle is necessary to explore the area). Key attractions / activities include the Gabriela Mistral museums and mausoleum, astronomy tours, pisqueras (Pisco distilleries), hiking, mountain biking, and even windsurfing in the nearby reservoir. The setting in between mountains is breathtaking. If you're into craft beer, don't forget to visit the beergarten at the Guayacan Brewery in Diaguitas (4 km away from Vicuna).
