Gariwerd Motel, hotel in Halls Gap

Located in the heart of the Grampians National Park, Gariwerd Motel is just 700 metres from the centre of Halls Gap. The environmentally focused motel is home to kangaroos, kookaburras and emus.

The motel is on the main street, just a few properties away from the oval where the kangaroos congregate. If you lucky, (as I was), you will see roos and kookaburras outside your door. The staff are excellent. extremely knowledgeable of the area and happy to provide advice for walks and "must see" places to visit. The room is clean, comfortable and has almost everything one would need for a stay at The Grampians. Highly recommend staying here.

Lovely town to visit but supermarket is quite expensive; we take most items we need and only buy essentials like bread and milk whilst there. Great lolly shop! Many places to get a great meal, we do enjoy getting takeaway from the local fish and chip shop or dining out at the Kookaburra Hotel; so many choices re: accommodation, take your pick! McKenzie Falls is a great place to visit; plenty of hiking / bushwalking available for those who enjoy it; lots of wildlife “on your doorstep” - kangaroos, wallabies and bird life in particular; playground facilities for children aplenty; Halls Gap Zoo is wonderful - highly recommend!

    Great scenery, amongst the mountains!!

Great scenery, amongst the mountains!! Plenty of lookouts, hikes, nature. We visited Halls Gap Zoo with the kids, it was a great day out! The animals looked healthy and happy, it was easy to navigate around, and lots of greenery. The town had its own magic, was small but with enough shops, restaurants etc., and clean.

Love this great position in town, the budget cabins are very budget, probably would upgrade to next level, cheap and cheerful I would say, clean and everything provided, probably good for a family and not 5 adults. Children would love the bunk beds as we did not. Overall the staff are amazing, the park is great, plenty of kangaroos, birds and very handy to the town and shops, I will be back for sure.

Love nature so enjoyed visiting MacKenzie Falls which has paths to viewing points for people of all abilities; even has a “resident” emu! Plenty of places for hiking. Halls Gap Zoo is a fabulous place to visit with so many birds and animals to see and interact with. Good choice of places to eat - we particularly thought The Kookaburra Hotel and the Halls Gap Hotel Bistro were particularly good with great food, great service, great atmosphere and great staff. Avoid Halls Gap Tavern at all costs! Plenty of accommodation options in most price ranges (best to avoid Kookaburra Lodge Motel if you want value for money and want even the bare minimum of housekeeping!) Basic shopping centre … but they DO have great ice cream and tasty fish and chips available there and a big playground for families with younger children. Beware the kangaroos as you drive around, they are everywhere at any given time of the day. Beautiful place to relax and enjoy.

Absolutely stunning, it had been years since i was there last and once again the friendliness of all the staff at the shops and attractions around could not be faulted. Let alone the food options in and around Halls Gap - Barneys Barn - Pomonel Estate , Indian , boutique beers and ciders, there are so many , you will never go hungry. The local Zoo is a highlight- go the extra mile and book a animal experience - Red Pandas are adorable. Halls Gap is a gem of Victoria and is well worth the visit. There is something there for everyone, you can be as active or as relaxed as you prefer.

We had an unfortunate mishap with our pre-booked accommodation that meant we had to find somewhere to stay very quickly. We are so happy that this error happened because we got to stay here! Our hosts were incredibly helpful, our room with spa was beautiful and it made our trip to the Grampians even more special. We’re already looking forward to our next stay

Gorgeous spacious cottage with everything you need for a great family holiday. We ate both nights at the shared bbq space with a wonderful view over a field with kangaroos and during our morning walks emu’s were walking around. Its a short drive from halls gap where hikes into the Grampians start. We’d definitely come again.

The hostel had nice clean rooms, was in a great location and had everything we needed for our stay. BJ and Tara were great hosts and a huge help organising our time in Halls Gap, particularly when we had some transportation troubles. I would happily stay at YHA Grampians Eco again.
