Sometimes you have to go through some bad experience in order to experience a good one.
We were two staff passengers along with 3 little kids that could not board our flight back home, as it was over-booked, so we had to find a place to tuck in for another night.
We booked in 64 Zenj House, and were accepted by the owner, Saleh, who immediately recognized how frustrated and tired we were.
He went to get us the food we ordered, and accompanied it with delicious fresh cold mix fruit juice, and cold water.
When you look for a place around the airport, know that Saleh's generosity simply cannot be over looked.

The Villa is a jewel. it was saved and restored from a nature that was literally claiming and swallowing it back. The White Villa stands Out from its beautiful green garden but without being intrusive with nature.
The garden and the Door Collection absolutely deserve a visit. the room was really well designed and furnished. you have really the feeling to be in a small bubble suspended out of time.

The location, facilities, views, food were all exemplary! Unfortunately, flight delays left us with a 3am arrival, but, after pleading, the manager allowed us a few hours of extra sleep with a late check out. Much needed and much appreciated. The air conditioning was fantastic! Breakfast buffet was A+++

Jabar Lodge is located outside a small town about 30 minutes drive north of Stone Town with sea view. There is a beach but not a sandy one that is good to walk on or to enter the water from. The individual cottages are made of woven palm fronds, thatched roof, front porch facing the sea, and fully functioning bathroom. There is a very nice, modern hotel a 3 minute walk on the local road where you can pay to spend the day or just go to eat in their restaurant overlooking the water. The breakfast was always excellent starting with a fresh fruit plate, coffee or tea, eggs and toast. The owner Jamal is very nice and we were able to pay him to take us into town for a day and to a spice farm. I didn't think the spice farm was worth the money of the visit but it was very close by and run by the local community.
For travelers who enjoy beauty in the simple things, a bed and breakfast (B&B) is the perfect place for a getaway. Hosts welcome guests into their homes and provide a private room and complimentary breakfast. Bathrooms might be shared by other guests, and there's usually shared space with the host.

Everything was great! It’s in a great location, could be a little hard to find but we had a guide so was fine. House was really nice and the host was really accommodating for our arrival and checkout times.

Take note to close shutters and doors otherwise it will be noisy at night. Great location within walking distance of charming streets of Stone Town.
The staff is super friendly, the location is great with many restaurants and highlights of stonetown very close. The rooftop terrace has a nice breeze making it a good spot to enjoy a book in the evening. The breakfast consists of an omelette, bread with jam, fresh fruit and coffee or tea, it tastes very good and good portions.
We stayed twice in this very nice guesthouse in the middle of Stonetown. The rooms and private bathroom are basic, comfortable and clean. You eat your breakfast, that comes with fresh fruit, on the rooftop terrace.
The owner is very helpful and tries to do everything to make your stay as comfortable as possible. You also can arrange your tours here, they are of great value.
The location is ideal. No cars around, close to the old slave market and the food market. If you visit Stonetown, we can definitely recommend this place!

Location is easy to find…just tell the driver ‚Culture‘ (i.e. Culture Musical Club). Once there a few meter to the right is this B&B. Everything in safe footwalk distance.
